I did horribly last year. Here's to a better year

 

My goal was 15 last year and I basically read 3. But it was also my first year of grad school so I didn’t end up reading for pleasure all that much. I’m going to have the same goal of 15 this year and over winter break I’ve been reading The Magicians trilogy. Currently on the second, The Magician King. I’m enjoying them just as much as the tv show.

 

My goals have went up 25 each year I've really kicked in. It's now at 100 for this year, I managed 75 last year but really didn't commit over the summer so hoping to bring the number up.

 

I don't think I'll set a book goal for myself as a number per se, but I do know I'd like to be better about keeping up with my reading and try to finish the huge backlog of books I buy and inevitably don't finish reading. I probably have close to 20 books that I've started or bought and never touched and I need to be better about that.

 

I did 30 last year so I think I'm gonna shoot for 40, might reevaluate later tho since I might be reaching for some longer books this year.

My goal for 2020 is 100 books: 50 novels/novellas/whatever, 50 comics/manga/whatever.
I'm also focusing on working through my backlog, to the extent that I'm using a d20 corresponding to the books on my shelves to pick what I read next and limiting new series/authors/purchases until I've knocked out a few. Should be a fun year—lots of good stuff coming up!

Does anyone count comics and make a higher goal? I feel like if I did I'd be in the hundreds and I know some people do!

 

i and others count compendium books but not singular issues

 

That was what I was thinking, single issues would just be cheating.....

I've always counted volumes at least, since I don't buy compendiums

Yeah, volumes are usually 5/6 single issues and compendiums are much larger! I agree that more than 1 should get counted.

 

I typically keep track of the series I read that I’ve been enjoying, but I don’t count them towards my goal.

 

I make a combined goal split pretty evenly between novels (/novellas, short stories) and comics (/manga/other).

For example, like last year, my goal for 2020 is 100 books read, of which 50 will be proper novels and 50 will be volumes of comics (which is nice since I primarily read TPBs anyway, but if I read single issues I just count the volume as one entry) or manga or whatever.

I figure that since I'm keeping track anyway I might as well incorporate it into my total goal; also, I want to make sure I'm not just reading comics all day at the expense of novels.
