New album is the first one I've really enjoyed.

This is tough for me. Father of the Bride feels like technically their best, but that first album was SO fresh and I might still call it my favorite. Modern Vampires is def my least favorite, even though everyone else seems to think it's their best.

just really started liking VW and Contra right before FOTB came out. I still would probably not have the urge to listen to s/t although I think it's pretty good now, but I really did fall in love with Contra

FOTB is my favorite but I’m gonna have to give it to modern vampires because Step / Hannah Hunt are stupid good and the album is executed with a lot of precision.

FOTB is fun and looser but modern vampires feels like a statement.

Man this is really tough. Honestly I think that I like each one a bit more than the last. But FOTB and Vampires is a toss up

It's Modern Vampires by a mile for me. That came out in my early 20s, and was part of the soundtrack of really special time for me personally.

Second half of Modern Vampires is the weakest part of their discography

    hey you lil piss baby

I always thought I was a self titled person until I saw the live show and realized FOTB is the one. It doesn’t cohere like the rest of the albums but it’s stacked with great tracks.

Modern vampires by a decent margin.

  18. Contra remains a classic as well, but I gotta go with MVOTC

    2. Contra
    3. Father of the Bride
    4. Vampire Weekend

My least favorite is most definitely the Self Titled. It’s a great record, one that I loved dearly when it came out but it just doesn’t hold up to the other 3. It’s got some great tunes, classics even, but it’s got 3-4 of the weakest VW songs imo.

The other 3 I could probably flip flop on on any given day. There is so much to love on FotB. But I think the darkness of MVotC is the most appealing to me. It has their best songs. Contra is kind of that overlooked dark horse that is semi under appreciated because it’s sandwiched between the debut and arguably their most heralded album. When ever I go back to it I am consistently surprised by how strong it is.

I put the top 3 in order of what usually spends the most time on my top spot.

    Bonus, top 5 VW songs:
    1. “Don’t Lie”
    2. “I Think Ur a Contra”
    3. “Ya Hey”
    4. “Step”
    5. “Harmony Hall”

The piano that plays during the “in the dark of this place” pre chorus part is so good.

my top 5 right now would go:

    1. Step
    2. Unbearably White
    3. Giving Up The Gun (the “Morning” version they’ve been playing on tour based on the extended mix specially)
    4. Hannah Hunt
    5. Harmony Hall

Could easily swap some of these for Bambina, This Life, Sympathy, Ya Hey, or Diane Young depending on the day. Step is really the only clear cut top choice for me. Though.
