Weekly Polls

So I used to do a weekly bit on AP where we had a classic album and ranked it based on our current feelings towards it. I've decided to start this back up and was looking for suggestions. I'll pick something for this week that I think will go over pretty interestingly.

I was also thinking of bringing in discography reviews. These would involve a poll where you could choose your favorite album from the discog and explain away. We could also do rankings in these threads. Whatever you guys want to do with it.

I was thinking for both of these ideas to throw up a new one on maybe Fridays and Mondays for each of the polls. Let me know what you guys think. Suggestions for albums/bands/direction of the threads

One idea is going with artists that have albums being released the week of the poll. This week, for example, I think I'll do Thrice for the "favorite album" poll.

 

I'm doing three for this week, but trying to space them out. Will put Coheed up on Monday. Not sure what is out the following week.

 

Looking for any suggestions you guys have for upcoming weeks. There is a lull in releases, so I'm down for any band. If we know someone has releases coming up, I'd hold off on those.

 

Alkaline Trio, Bayside, Thursday, Circa

 

Thursday and Circa were definitely two I was considering. I like the Alk3 pick a bunch too.

Others I was considering:
Yellowcard, Blink-182, Radiohead, Weezer, Fall Out Boy

I really want to optimize the amount of discussion we are getting in these threads. Clicking an album without discussing anything is boring.

 

Copeland would be a good one too.

And yeah, that's what bums me out the most. These polls should be a great way to start a conversation but most just vote and leave the thread

This upcoming week we have a new Saves the Day record, but I think JEW is a good pick for the following week.

 

For next week, I'm not sure if I should go with an AP staple, or MUSE. They have a new album next week, but there isn't much traction in their thread at all.

 

Any ideas for the next couple weeks? There are a few I'm holding off on until they release new material, but I'll basically open to anything.

I think one thing I want to do is revisit these threads after a year or so and see if new releases stack up. Maybe change the title to include "revisited" and have people give their opinions.

Going forward, we still don't have many releases coming up for bands that are popular enough on the site to get big reactions, so I'd like to do Nate Ruess, Minus the Bear, Blink-182 and a few others. There is definitely no end to how much we can get out of these threads. lol

 

Would you guys want to do polls that warrant more discussion? I was thinking we could cover controversial opinions or just more open-ended questions. Ranking albums is fun, but we don't really get much out of it in the end. Any ideas would be awesome.

 

Looking to break off from AP type records. Not sure what would get a lot of love. Drake is probably going to be next weeks. Broken Social Scene is the next big release I want to cover. Still have to do My Chem.

I guess I never checked back in here after I asked. Haha. Definitely going to use some of the stuff listed. I think I'm going to give people who recently released albums I missed about six months for people to stew on. I'd like to touch on Danny Brown, Vampire Weekend, Carly, and Tyler, so I'll hold off on those.

I'm going to hold off on Taylor Swift and Charli until their album releases.

I'm kinda reluctant to do classic rock artists due to the size of their catalogs. I have to limit the number of releases I can put, and I know people will be pissy about their fave being left off.

Thinking Portugal, The Killers, Reliant K will be the upcoming few weeks.
