High Violet, with Boxer as the runner-up and Sleep Well Beast rounding out the top three. Interestingly, my favorite used to be Trouble Will Find Me, but I've cooled off on that album A LOT.

Sleep Well Beast is their best and i will accept no other answer other than any album after Sad Songs

 

TWFM used to be my favorite as well.. I wouldn't say I've cooled off on it A LOT but High Violet is my favorite as of right now. Pink Rabbits is still my favorite song.

I loved this band for years before Boxer clicked. Might be my second favorite now.

Can't wait to get that vinyl next month.

 

I honestly love every album dearly. There's a time and place for all of them...

except for Alligator.. There's some songs there that I love but mostly I don't care for it.

 

Such a solid discography

 

I’m not one for hyperbole, but this is the hardest question ever asked in human history

 

Sleep Well Beast is everything they do well at once.

High Violet, Boxer, and Alligator all have strong arguments for that #2 spot for me.

 

High Violet just hit at the right time for me. It was one of my go to albums to bike around in gloom when I was in college

 

Alligator was my favorite for ages but I think now I gotta go

IAETF would probably be my favorite of theirs if it had like 4 fewer tracks.

 

But some days SWB is my favorite

 

Boxer didn't really click for me until a few months ago, haha

 

Could make a convincing argument for any of them since Alligator, but I went with I am Easy to Find, since I feel that's the apex, if they stopped making music for whatever reason I would of course be disappointed, but I would also find solace in them going out on that one because it's everything they've done well before, and then some. I feel like you can hear pieces of all the other albums on it and yet they didn't rehash anything, it still felt challenging and fresh.

 

Trouble Will Find Me is their best imo.
Alligator, Boxer, High Violet and I Am Easy To Find are really close.
Sleep Well Beast never got to me as the ones above.
Self titled and Sad Song are fun to listen to. Maybe I need to go through their discography again tomorrow.

SWB = perfect mix
HV = highest volume of bangers
Boxer = best front to back and flow
IAETF = most cinematic
TWFM = most subdued and emotional

I do a full discography run (minus gator and the s/t) damn near weekly.

insane to think I straight up did not like this band at all for the longest time. Will never forgive myself for missing their set at the first year of Eaux Claires when Sufjan and JV were on stage. Just didn’t really care to see it. Probably my second favorite band ever now.

tbh they should’ve released a directors cut with some of the interlude-y type tracks left in and another version that’s trimmed down. It really is my favorite record of theirs some days and when it first came out I was listening front to back multiple times a day.

Quiet Light is a top 3 song for me. Those druuuums ugh

 

"Light Years" is their best album closer in a stacked discog and I will die on this hill

 

agree with this but Vanderlyle is soooo perfect live

Nobody Else Will Be There is the best opener in an even more stacked lineup and I will die on THAT hill. They really fucking know how to open an album.
