Art Angels by far (still love Visions), but I can see the new one taking its place

 

Art Angels is one of the coolest albums ever.

 

Art Angels (in retrospect) is my favorite album of 2015. At the time I had it at number 12, but now the only other 2015 albums that are in the same stratosphere are Carrie & Lowell, Emotion, Currents, and Dealer. Flesh Without Blood is a top 5 song of all time for me.

Enough about my arbitrary rankings, this album just flat out fucks. She upped the catchy pop sensibilities, downplayed some of the weird electronics, but still made a record that is unmistakably Grimes. A few moments fall a little short of the mark for me (California and Scream), but overall, the high points more than make up for it.

Favorite tracks: Flesh Without Blood, Kill V. Maim, Realiti, Butterfly

 

Visions is the only one I play all the way through.

 

Hoooooow can you not love “California”? I feel like a lot of people carry this sentiment. I find it so fun and catchy but also really beautiful! I think her vocals in the prechorus and chorus are so stunning.

 

It’s fine! I just feel like the album doesn’t truly take off until FWB.

 

Visions is the reason I first became inspired to make my own songs, so there goes my vote.

 

Visions is good but Art Angels might be one of my favorite albums ever. From start to finish it continues to do something new. I'm incredibly excited for her new album.
