Dopamine is probably the album I revisit the most behind S/T, honestly. It's a really solid album with maybe two songs that I don't really dig. Something in You is such a damn good song, too.
Has some great songs on it. "Exiles" "Shipboard Cook" "Back To Zero". Solid record, and enjoyed it more than Ursa Major
I liked it a lot. I also liked the EP. "Don't Give in", "Company of Strangers", "Sherri is a stoner" are all really good imo
Not to slight the other current band members, but Dopamine seemed like the actual start of 3EB as a solo project. Ursa Major toned down Fredianelli's guitar work and eventually drove him out of the band, and even though Kryz Reid can slay and Brad's still kickin it and the two new guys are decent, it actually feels now like 3EB is just Stephen Jenkins. The rock instrumentation is toned down in favor of keys and ballads and dancier beats, the production is glossier and less crunchy, and its even just him on the Dopamine and We Are Drugs covers. Look at any recent picture of 3EB - they're all wearing nothing but black. Jenkins probably threatened to kick them out of the band if they didn't adopt his dress code, and I wish I was joking in saying that. All that said, "Company of Strangers" is the strongest track 3EB has written since Out of the Vein, and is exactly why Jenkins can pretty much do whatever the fuck he wants even at 52.
Favorite 90's albums (picking only one per artist) Weezer - Weezer No Doubt - Tragic Kingdom Sublime - Sublime Matchbox Twenty - Yourself or Someone Like You Everclear - So Much For The Afterglow Savage Garden - Savage Garden New Radicals - Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too The Offspring - Americana Barenaked Ladies - Stunt Third Eye Blind - Blue Blink-128 - Enema of the State Lit - A Place In The Sun Incubus - Make Yourself
its been ages since I've listened to Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too. That was another album that was fantastic top to bottom and way more than just a one hit wonder! As a side note... now that we've well hijacked the 3EB thread into a 90's music thread, should we make a 90's music thread? I could talk about this stuff endlessly for days! (but possibly not at the expense of people wanting to discuss just 3EB?)
I spend a considerable amount of my time listening to 90s music and/or 90s bands people think stopped making music 15 years ago.
Apparently, it already exists... just not a whole lot going on in it. But that could change! The 90's Music Thread
That's a cool, but also sad article in a way. As I've posted above, I think it's cool some of the guys that helped write that record can perform the songs since it's their legacy as well.
Since we're going full 90s, here's a must-hear deep track from a lost 90s band, well worth the listen
You ever listen to Emerson Hart's solo stuff? His most recent record isn't that great, but his first album (from like 2007) was pretty terrific.
Yeah, he's the frontman. "Flyin'" is my favorite song of his, but there are a bunch of gems on Cigarettes and Gasoline.
This reminds me of a playlist I made for the Friday playlist series back in the AbsolutePunk days. "The 90s: Where Are They Now," including the then-recent work of bands/artists that had hits in the 90s.
Sure, it's: 1. Vertical Horizon - You Never Let Me Down 2. Butch Walker - Coming Home 3. The Wallflowers - Misfits and Lovers 4. Counting Crows - Like Teenage Gravity 5. Matchbox Twenty - Radio 6. Noel Gallagher - If I Had a Gun 7. Eve 6 - Moon 8. Sister Hazel - The Saddest Song 9. Emerson Hart - Best That I Can Be 10. Third Eye Blind - Sharp Knife 11. No Doubt - One More Summer 12. The Smashing Pumpkins - Pinwheels 13. Beck - Country Down 14. Better Than Ezra - I Just Knew
'There Was No Overnight Success': An Oral History of Third Eye Blind's Self-Titled Debut Crazy how fast Jenkins is to take all the credit for everything and minimize the rest of the group. Cadogan and co. might not be relevant anymore, but at least they're not as petty as SJ.
