Yeah agreed with the power pop comparison. I’m even more excited for this album now, feels like they really came back with a fresh vision for their sound.
Yes, while this isn’t necessarily the sound I had in mind for new TMV, it at least sounds like they’re having fun and doing what they want and not pandering to what they think the fans might enjoy. I really like this song. (Although I don’t like how it just ends.) It is Octahedron on pop rocks.
Best part of Volta, imo, is that you really have no idea what they’re going to sound like on an album-to-album basis
Their YouTube channel has already uploaded the song, guess it'll be available to hear in a couple hours
I'm listening back through some of my favorite Omar solo albums to kill time before new TMV. I think a lot of people have listened to Bufalo, which has the obvious Cedric featuring tracks, but if anyone hasn't listened to The Apocalypse Inside Of An Orange, I suggest at least checking out "Melting Chariots," "Spared From The Insult List," "Baby Fat" and "Coma Pony." The band on the album is Omar, Juan, Marcel, Adrian and Money Mark, so a big overlap with Amp/Bedlam-era TMV
I’ve listened to it three times today and I love it. I expect very polarized reactions, haha. I really liked Octahedron at the time and still like most of it but this song is such a more appealing take on that sound to me.
make me a playlist of non-atdi/tmv but related stuff steve. do you have a spreadsheet like your insane/great beatles one
If you really want to get crazy, I did do a mini-review of... ahem... every single Omar album: https://forum.chorus.fm/threads/omar-rodriguez-lópez.4357 but these are the key full album listens, if you want topline for Omar's stuff: Se Dice Bisonte, No Bufalo Apocalypse Inside An Orange Absence Makes The Heart Grow Fungus Old Money Megaritual Cryptomnesia Xenophanes Solar Gambling and then of course Antemasque I can try to make a playlist of best-of, but honestly the idea sounds a bit daunting to me at this moment and would probably take a while haha
cool song, i like it, but i wish it was a little longer. just when it feels like it's starting to get really good, it ends :(
I think I can at least get the general vibe, but yeah it's very different from anything I've heard Cedric and Omar do together, so that is pretty exciting
I love it even though it wish it was longer. Makes me wonder if it flows directly into a rock-ier song on the tracklist.
