I'm going to go back and listen through all his solo albums again to remind myself which are worth it, maybe it'll help out anyone who has no idea where to dive in with his stuff
It's been years since I listened to his solo albums. My old computer crashed and I lost most, if not all, of his releases.
Your move Delonge. Jokes aside, I can't imagine myself listening to all of these, but I'll try to check out what I can.
I was just coming to make this thread and tag @irthesteve ! Also worth noting: Each album will see a digital release with a limited number of physical copies (CD) available on Rodriguez-Lopez’s various live outings. Following the initial run of releases, a limited edition CD/LP box set will become available.
I think I'm going to sell all my Omar CD's (and all my CDs honestly) pretty soon, if anyone is looking for any
ugh... why there's nothing since Bisonte that I've liked from solo Omar... but... I'll give ONE record a chance - suggest one
A Manual Dexterity: Soundtrack Volume One (2004) I've always enjoyed this one, probably has to do with it being one of the ones I've listened to the most, purely because it's the first. I actually just learned today that this actually is part 1 of 2, for a film that Omar made. Turns out part 2 and the film itself are tied up in legal problems, but he does one day want to release it. I also learned that Omar's dad provides the vocals in track 4, which is pretty cool. The last song of the album features Cedric and is the best of the batch in my opinion. Also featured throughout the album are Jeremy Ward, John Frusciante and Ikey Owens. Bottom line: It's Omar performing a soundtrack to a film, and definitely feels that way. Mostly laid back instrumentals with some cool guitar lines throughout, final track is a must-listen. I give it 3 out of 5 Omars
I remember enjoying that one quite a bit Omar's recording techniques (inspired by movies' filming process) have always been interesting to me - specially the recording process for Amputechture (some days my fav Volta album)
Amputechture is a really great album, I really miss TMV, I'm anxiously awaiting the reunion tour and album
Was that the one where he had each member record their parts individually minutes after being taught them? And not letting anyone hear anyone else's parts until the album was done?
LOL, yeah imagine Omar teaching Frusciante all the guitar parts, and then John going in to record and killing it just minutes after that Omar basically focused on recording and composing, and he only plays a couple of solos in the album - all the rest is John (guitar-wise, of course)
Excellent interview with Omar about everything Omar Rodriguez-Lopez on Solo-LP Series, New ATDI Album | Rolling Stone
new AtD-I and possibly new Volta - all's well maybe finally I can get behind Omar once again, I've missed him
