They’re both in my top movies of the year, so it’s tough. I just liked Madison’s performance more even if the Substance was my favorite, she really carries the whole thing in such a beautiful way. Great films, I’ll be mad if anyone else wins.

I still haven’t watched either movie because my mental health frankly sucks, so I barely watch stuff, but it just sucks that it has to come down to a legacy performance and a breakthrough one. Hopefully I get to them before then, but I just hope the better performance wins.

part of me thinks that the other nominees might also have slightly higher chances than expected (even if i do agree that it'll come down to Demi and Mikey). i think it's somewhat slimmer for Cynthia but not outside the realm of possibility, and unfortunately the Academy's love of Emilia Pérez might do something for Karla.

I do think it’s great that a horror film is getting this much recognition, they’re usually so ignored. It’s a great time to be a horror freak.

Will do, thank you! I finally got back into gaming the last couple weeks, so I’m slowly trying to build my motivation and stuff back up. It’s probably an attention thing just as much too.

Toni Collette deserved that Oscar. A hill I will gladly die on

I love Frances McDormand but Toni not even getting a nomination was a travesty.

I was thinking of a fun question.. what do you all consider to be the most recent true “horror classic?”

An inconsequential shift as the continents drift.

in terms of impact probably It Follows although there's stuff I've liked more since

Is 11 years ago recent though?

Well..I guess the term, “recent,” is relative. I didn’t want to put parameters on it because I’m genuinely curious to see what this thread’s takes are.

I assumed they meant relative to like the classics from the 70s/80s haha

If the Substance is a modern classic and I’d love if she won best director

Get Out is an obvious pick along with Hereditary. Nope and Midsommar have a case too.

most of the others I’d consider are more cult classics, less mainstream horror must-sees.

That’s the beauty of the question. It’s all in the eye of the beholder. If I had to pick 5 from 1990 on:

    Hereditary
    Saw
    Scream
    Get Out
    Candyman
