  1. since I just saw Immaculate and looooved it, maybe I'll wait til First Omen is online or whatever, after some time has passed, and then I'll watch it.

    Upgrade is so damn good.

  3. Yeah I'm not really in a rush to see First Omen, and I also still need to catch Late Night with the Devil, but I think my highest priority right now is Monkey Man

  4. Sydney Sweeney in Immaculate, Voyeurs, and Nocturne is three for three as far as I'm concerned

  5. I remember being pleasantly surprised with it, definitely in the mood for something like that this weekend

me and my housemate are catching First Omen tonight! he's never seen the original so I'm treating it like a control experiment to see which one of us likes it more

so we both enjoyed it a lot! I don't remember a whole lot of the original honestly so I don't know if it affected a lot lol but it definitely stands alone as a good horror movie. Nell Tiger Free is absolutely insanely good, there's a scene which reminds me of Adjani in Possession which is about the highest compliment I can give any actor lol. we both thought the real star was the cinematography though, camerawork is fantastic throughout and there's some truly beautiful and haunting shots. a couple of jumpscares towards the start didn't really land and those were the only things that stopped it feeling like it was actually made 40 years ago. good good stuff

also as a bonus we got the Abigail trailer. gave away a bit more than I would've liked but overall it looks like a riot. I love that we're in the era of 'just put Dan Stevens in everything'

Fun fact: the cinematographer is the same one that did Evil Dead (2013), Aaron Morton.

it really does look fantastic. best looking horror movie I've seen in ages

also for an Omen prequel I was very surprised that it paid homage to quite a few different classics. some definite nods to Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist at points

    That sounds awesome.

I’m going to try and do Immaculate or Omen on Monday. Honestly will depend on which auditorium is less full.

This thread is really hyping up First Omen, may have to drop the 5 bucks for it on Tuesday

well I was in a big horror movie mood when I got back tonight so I ticked a few off the list with a six-pack of beer. this will be a duo of opinions that will not make me anymore popular here but fuck it:

did Insidious Red Door first. I don't know why but this is a franchise I'm weirdly fond of even though there's exactly half a great movie in it and the same applied here. scares were predictable and the logic of it barely made sense but it was a really nice sendoff for characters I'm bizarrely attached to after all this time. give it up for Patrick Wilson cos the character as written is supremely uninteresting but he somehow had me tearing up more than once just by acting real fuckin good. works for this specific movie that he's finally started to visibly age after looking exactly the same for at least 15 years. tbh might be the first horror movie I've ever finished that had me immediately wanting to call my dad

after that, decided to give Freaky another shot after bailing in the first 10 minutes the last time I tried it. I did have fun but frankly it's only idea is "wouldn't it be funny if Vince Vaughn and Kathryn Newton impersonated each other?" and that's kind of a thin idea for a whole movie. like at a certain point you realise that even though both performances are really good, the characters are so thinly sketched that Vaughn is just doing stereotypical teen girl and Newton is just doing stereotypical psycho killer cos there's not a lot else to work with? would've been fun to see them really dig in to the impersonations if we actually knew anything beyond the surface about their characters. there's still intermittent great parts in this movie but I don't know how much I would've enioyed it without five beers in me lmao. maybe I should finally watch the Happy Death Days to see if Landon's really got that juice or not

  23. The Prowler was fun! Definitely gets by on its amazing kills, and the reveal kind of lands with a thud, but it's still a solid slasher elevated by its visual effects.

President's Day is similar. Lots of fun, subpar acting with some really great low-budget kills, a little long in the tooth, but LaMartina fans (like myself) will really appreciate it.

Honestly, you should. I’m afraid it’s going to be supremely overlooked and bomb so I’m encouraging folks to go see it if they can. I may go see it again tbh, it’s been sitting with me since seeing it Thursday
