Their first three records are a bit better than the two that came after imo but they're all so good (except Teeth Dreams which isn't bad just uneven)
New album Open Door Policy out Feb 19, 2021. 1. The Feelers 2. Spices 3. Lanyards 4. Family Farm 5. Unpleasant Breakfast 6. Heavy Covenant 7. The Prior Procedure 8. Riptown 9. Me & Magdalena 10. Hanover Camera 11. Parade Days (Bonus Track)
Super stoked for this! My controversial take is that Thrashing is a top 3 Hold Steady album. The single rules.
Not controversial to me. GREAT album. also there are a bunch of new bonus tracks out (last Friday, Heaven Is Whenever reissue) - and they are good
My semi-controversial take is, this band doesn't work NEARLY as well without Franz. Franz back = Classic HS back I'm sure the new album will rule, much like Thrashing did. Would love to see a full-scale tour from these guys next year whenever the world gets turned back on.
love the new song, might have to spring for a few nights of that livestream. easily my favorite working band that i've never actually seen live...someday
Finn/Kubler is already an incredible songwriting duo, but Franz is definitely the secret sauce. On that note- anyone ever check out Franz's solo stuff? Such a fucking interesting/talented dude.
Doing a discography listen and getting hyped for the new album. I can't believe those first three records came out in consecutive years.
Not sure if this is THS or Craig solo (it's been posted on both IG accounts), but we're getting something on Friday. The font/imagery/sound of it seems more CF solo, but THS did play some new songs at their last show. Psyched either way.
They just put up a live show from earlier this year on Bandcamp and it has a couple of new songs on it (Carlos is Crying & Sideways Skull). Be surprised if we don't get a new record in 2023. Live in Los Angeles 9-9-22, by The Hold Steady
Just getting started with these guys after scooping up some free CDs (what are those?) from Marketplace this morning. Looks like I landed Heaven Is Whenever and Boys and Girls in America. Any place I should start?
The three album run of Separation Sunday-B+G-Stay Positive is fantastic. I actually really like Heaven is Whenever but it’s sorely missing keys.
They actually just released a reimagined Heaven is Whenever with keys, recorded at a sound check a few years ago
