Casey seems like a really nice guy. I'm glad he embraces just how....obsessive some fans can be. TDH subreddit in particular can be a bit nutty and sometimes hit Brand New levels of fanaticism but i get it.
I was obsessed with this band in 2012/2013 but that was also around the time I started to gravitate very strongly away from rock music and more towards r&b/hip-hop. So I didn't listen to this band for years. I've started introducing rock music back into my listening rota again over the last year or so (lots of Radiohead, Biffy Clyro, Now Now and Jimmy Eat World), but for some reason, it didn't occur to me to revisit this band. However, this thread has been fairly active lately so it inspired me to give them a listen again. I'm glad I did! I can't believe I ever stopped listening to these guys in the first place (as I said before, it's nothing personal- I just got bored of the genre as a whole a few years ago). I went through everything yesterday, including the albums I hadn't heard before: Migrant, Act IV and Act V. It's a lot to take in and I'll definitely have to listen to them again before I can really form a solid opinion on them, but based on my first listen they're all fantastic. My ranking would be: The Color Spectrum - 10/10 Act II - 10/10 Act I - 9/10 Act III - 8/10
trying to make my way through the color spectrum today... its hard for me to get through honestly, but i have a newfound appreciation for green since ive been listening to country/alt country more since the last time i listened to TDH. act IV and V are so good! havent been able to get into migrant yet either, but im going to make an effort to here soon.
ummm why is violet so good, holy crap. i know ive listened to it before, and i dont understand how i heard lilian and my jaw didnt drop to the floor for 4 minutes.
Alright y'all, I'm a die hard TREOS fan but have never given this band a shot. Where should I start? Also, are there any old songs about the TREOS falling out I should pay close attention to?
Just listen in order imo. Act 1 is easily the worst of the Acts but it’s not horrible and it’s very short. Act 3 was the first album of theirs that really got my attention but I think if you’re committed then just listen in order of release
Depends really. If you're the kind of person who would really be interested in the story a big concept, you have to start at Act I even though it's not really the best start musically. If you don't really care too much about the story, Act V: Hymns With The Devil In Confessional is probably his strongest overall release. The Color Spectrum is really good as it shows just how much variety Casey is capable of though. That release however is like, 36 songs. So It can be a little overwhelming.
I'll start from the first Act then so I get a hold of the story. Is it similar to Coheed where there are comics and other media that further expand the story?
Act II is the most TREOS sounding stuff, but Acts IV and V are my personal favorites. I say start with those. This is a really good overview of everything. A Beginner's Guide to The Dear Hunter • r/TheDearHunter
I always assumed that The Dear Hunter was an acoustic side project. There was an acoustic song I heard back in the day and was disappointed it didn't sound like TREOS. This is really neat stuff, wish I wasn't so closed minded about music back in the day.
