@Morrissey has written so much so well about film here that I think he's earned not to be called a troll. Even if you think he's wrong or being a bit of an ass, he always explains himself and backs up any claim. I disagree with him as often as I agree with him but he's a positive presence as a voice on film in this community.
I can see where Tetra is coming from, idk if I would consider Leto a household name in the majority of households in the US, honestly. Definitely not an actor who "most people love", to get back to the root of the argument. Source: I taught at a summer camp this year of mainly black and latino kids ranging from 10-17ish. We played Scattegories a lot to pass time and I'd play Leto if "J" or "L" came up and I have to say, idk if a single kid there knew his name. I'm sure if you said "Joker in Suicide Squad" some would nod approvingly, but I wouldn't put him on par with someone like Affleck or Jennifer Lawrence or w/e. Winning an Oscar doesn't mean shit to those kids, their sources for pop culture are so wildly different than mine
I disagree. He does troll threads, and has after being repeatedly warned by moderators for years. I also agree that he, at times, has positive contributions. But the black and white comments, and things like, "I like good movies and dislike bad movies" are absolutely the definition of what we define as trolling on this site. Hell I'm literally the only the reason he still is posting on the site after I've stopped multiple people from banning him over the years — but, he does troll.
And, to be clear, they always referenced the movie "Streets" starring Meek Mill, and when I would question them about never having heard of it, they were absolutely aghast at my ignorance. Different circles, people!
I mean that graph is surveying sets of people who search for actors online, who are interested in talking about actors. That's a subset of people, not everyone does that. Which baffles me because of how much I care about pop culture, but it's true
The things my students know are another world from me. I was accused of having no life because I didn't know a celebrity baby's name. People have a hard time looking outside of their bubble so they assume everyone knows what they know. As a general rule of thumb, you can ask yourself "would my grandparents know who this is?" or if you are old "would my parents know who this is?" They can probably tell you a little about Britney Spears or Will Smith, but when you start getting further down it is all foreign to them.
I would argue that a Wal-Mart is a place Leto would be more known considering he's in an Active Rock band that gets played on the butt rock stations and they're a fairly clean band. It's probably the main place you'd find their albums.
Millennials are the largest age group in America. So, no, your grandparents aren't a good rule of thumb if talking about celebrity and how well known they are going to be of a random subset.
Discussing his celebrity status, then? Regardless, that's again for people who are searching celebrities' names, and I'd still call that a subset of the population
Plenty of Wal-Marts around me are not filled with people who would be listening to butt rock. Again, it's about your area
The parents and grandparents are representative of people who are not in tune with all of these sorts of things. If we keep the divisions of age, very few black or Hispanic young people are going to know either.
It's been shown to be a very good barometer for interest in a person (or thing) at any given time and it extrapolates, similar to a poll, outward. IE: You can even use it to predict flu outbreaks and sports ticket sales.
I had never heard the term "butt rock" until now, but I would imagine the musical tastes at a Wal-Mart are pretty diverse. There are a few types of musicians that would be far less popular with a Wal-Mart crowd than a Whole Foods crowd, but those are select tastes anyway.
The movie is good. The whole thing is rushed and WB and DC missed out on a gold mine in movies they could of made which would of made them rival Marvel. Enchantress should of had her own movie or two. Diablo and Croc could of shared a movie Boomerang, Deadshot, Joker, and Harley Quinn could of shared a movie Harley Quinn should of had her own movie All of which would of made this movie that much better as people are invested more in the individual characters. For me personally, there was absolutely no suspense in this movie. Hard to see WB continuing making these movies for the long term as they don't seem invested in the the universe and are rushing to the final act without setting up the ground work.
I'd be willing to take that bet as well given his collaboration and friendship with Kanye and other artists.
Yeah, on one hand WB seems all in with the chances they are taking, but then they seem to be nervous and manage to interfere last minute to fuck with the product. It's a shame because even if I agree with you that it's good (I see it tomorrow), a movie with this cast, characters and look should be better than good.
I'll say this Marvel had 5 movies (4 separate characters) before they had any "squad" type movie. DC has 2 and the common connection is "dead".
