I loved this so much. I thought Jake was great and all the returning cast was great. I love Tom and Zendayas chemistry, Ned and his girlfriend were great and hilarious. Also loved that they got Leon Black for this (not sure his real name). I also love how they handled the aftermath of “the blip”. They made it clear that it’s been a confusing time without dwelling on it too much. I think they handled the immense pressure Peter was under from the world, Aunt May, Ned, and Fury. Mysterio was the only one who even attempted to understand him there and offer some comfort, so I don’t think it’s crazy at all he gave the glasses to him. Plus you gotta remember that Peter has met so many superheroes and been asked to immediately trust them. We wouldn’t be batting an eye if he made the decision to hand this power over to Captain Marcel in Endgame, for example. He’s in an emotionally vulnerable place and Mysterio took advantage of that. It also then felt earned that his Peter tingle wasn’t working for those reasons, and Happy bringing him out of it was a great moment. I also enjoyed the mid credit scene. I’m really interested to see where they go from there. I assume with JJJ now in the picture the next one will be more NY based and a more typical spidey swinging through NY movie.
If people start saying "Peter tingle" more than "spider-sense," in unironic conversation, that alone will make this the worst Spider-Man film. Also, I feel like this gif perfectly captures these filmmakers' opinion of his spider-sense: I will agree that Ned & Betty were perfect. Everyone who works w/ high school kids knows that young love dynamic, lol.
I unfortunately sat next to a couple that would loudly sigh each time Ned and Betty said “babe” which resulted in about 24 loud sighs throughout the film. I enjoyed the awkward teenage romance though. Holland and Zendaya are prime awkward and it working helps the film in many of its weak moments.
Idk I felt like some of the high school stuff was trying too hard. Some of it landed and some of it didn’t
The whole compromising picture sequence & aftermath was stupid in the ways that have already been discussed, but otherwise, from what I recall, the students felt a lot like actual students to me? There's enough dumb stuff in this film that some may have gone right through me w/ no impact, lol. But, watching it just over a week after helping run a week of summer church camp, a couple days after running a church youth group photo scavenger hunt... I dunno, I could've seen any one of those kids at one of those events.
Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this. Liked it more than the first, and thought Jake G did a great job as he usually does. Felt
Really hope they can find a way through the Sony deal to get Tom Holland a Disney Plus show,I’d love to see small adventures in NYC.
Thought this was great. Zendaya is amazing, Tom and Jake were awesome as well. This movie became an afterthought for me after the exhausting build up to endgame, but I had a blast. The illusion scene before he gets hit by the train looked super cool.
I mean, your comment added literally nothing to the conversation. Nobody even knows what opinions you thought were bad because you didn't elaborate on who you agree/disagree with. Did you enjoy the movie? Did you hate it? I have no idea lol.
loved this movie and Gyllenhaal was magnificent as we knew he would be that crooked little smile after Peter left the bar and he turned off the illusion? holy shit y'all
For your entertainment a full list of my gripes: - Continuity fatigue: was there really a need to tie Mysterio's motivations all the way back to the Iron Man? Re purposing old random scenes and characters just felt cheap - The comedy in this was just way too forced. Most of the teachers' jokes fell flat and it was waaaay too silly - I get that Peter's path to being a responsible hero won't necessarily be incremental and not take detours, but at this point they have him literally zigzagging from stupid to smart to meet whatever the movie he's in needs - Tech fatigue, I hate that the final fight sequence was Spidey vs. drones - Jake G.'s big villain exposition speech to his crew felt so incredibly off, the music was so random, and again... the way they literally showed 2 secs of Iron Mar and Civil War just felt like "they hate Tony. It's all connected. Moving on." - The first hour and a half was really poor, Holland and the cast are great but too much time was wasted and then when it started getting good things moved way too quickly - The drone strike on Brad and the entire bus sequence was stupid - I get the MCU is done taking superheroes seriously but come on, it's fucking Spider-Man and the movie was literally Ant-Man level light. Nothing matters, it's all a joke - Finally some swinging in NY, but why the fuck does he have to be texting for the entirety of it? Can't they just give us that one moment? - It just felt like whoever made this was given a free pass to do whatever and it was all put together in a month. JJ is back and it's JK Simmons but bald: sure. That guy working with Mysterio was an extra in IM1: okay. Also, Happy can fly jets now: yep, cool. Remember Friday? No? Don't matter, it's Edith now. Sigh... What I really, really liked: - The main Mysterio illusion scene did almost everything I wanted a movie with Mysterio to do
I wasn’t trying to add to the conversation, and I’m positive that nearly everyone knew the point I was making.
@Why Bother?, why bother spoiler tagging that large a post, when we're like 4 days into spoilers being free game? Gosh, lol.
I agree with the tech fatigue. They did have that one kinda-cool-ish moment of him relying on his spider-sense (though not as strong as it should've been), but otherwise, the final battle was so dull. Might as well have been the end of Iron Man 2, lol. 'Twas made worse by that one glorious sequence where we see what Mysterio could've been. I think I halfway disagree with the silliness complaint, insofar as I think this character is intrinsically silly, & they did kinda try to have real pathos in mourning Stark & wanting to be w/ MJ. The execution didn't totally work due to some poor writing, but the overall tone itself mostly felt within line of what I'd expect from the character.
Entertainment Forum Policies and Guidance • forum.chorus.fm Let's not continue the tradition of debating an already settled matter in every Marvel thread, lol. Most people are pretty chill following our spoiler policy. It's not a big deal.
I mean, was he really that stupid in this? Naive? Yeah, probably. Emotionally vulnerable? 100% yes. But I wouldn't really call him stupid. Him trusting Beck really isn't that ridiculous considering a. he was the only person in the room most of the time who wasn't berating him at every turn and b. Fury (one of the most notorious hardasses in the MCU) is calling him the next Iron Man and is getting ready to unveil him as an Avenger.
I dunno it's not like Peter had to give Edith to anyone, let alone practically a stranger. The script cooked up it's "maybe Tony knew I wasn't ready and wanted me to give Edith away to someone!!!", which is very stupid.
Peter thought he wasn't ready to handle that kind of power, so he gave it to someone he felt was ready. There are definitely contrivances with the script and general plot, but I really don't think that's one of them
