Spider-Man: Far From Home (Jon Watts, July 2, 2019) Movie • Page 33

  1. I hope people know Alex Jones is an actual horrible person doing real harm and not just a character to caricature. That worries me.

That's fair! I just wasn't expecting such detailed spoilers so dang early. Usually it takes a bit.

And if this is worse than ASM2, I will be incredibly upset.

Yeah the J. Jonah of the comics and Raimi movies had moments of redeemable value. I don't view the character as an Alex Jones type.

This is a respectable take. I just hope that I enjoy Far From Home more than you.

While I understand the pivot to a J. Jonah seemingly more inspired by the PS4 game, there are definitely other ways they could go with him while still keeping things modern. Perhaps he's a huckster using fake scoops of Spiderman's "villainy" to prop up a newspaper that's dying because of online journalism.

Yeah, this is a good point. The Jonah in this universe better have zero redeeming qualities. I don't really want a reason to sympathize with him.

That's pretty much what happened in the Ultimate comics actually heh.

I'm not as up on comics so that's cool to know! Honestly, they probably just don't want to have to introduce the Daily Bugle and a whole other cast of characters into an already stuffed cast. Having Jonah be a solo crackpot is more economical I guess.

This old tweet still makes me bummed that we never got the full ASM story that Webb wanted

Jonah in the comics and Raimi’s movies doesn’t feel like he has alex jones in him but this definitely seems influenced by his unfortunate bump in relevance since those movies

That’s honestly my biggest problem with the movie.

I feel like the majority of the first hour of film will fall pretty flat on repeated viewings. The second half is an enjoyable spectacle and I do like Holland’s performance.

The mid credits scene is okay to me, I’mOkay with that reveal. But to me, the fallout and aftermath of that is a hundred times more interesting to me than the first half of this movie.

I enjoyed Mysterio, I like that he ultimately won.

    I dug Zendaya a lot.

I dunno. I feel like I’ll like this a lot less the more I think about it.

Also, what’s with Watts loving to cut to black during someone saying “fuck” in these movies?

This was a lot of fun. Better than Homecoming, for sure. Great action. Holland, Zendaya, and Gyllenhaal all killed it.

Absolutely loved all of Mysterio's illusion scenes. Zombie Iron Man!

Gonna go in an interesting direction after that midcredits scene. Might need to find someone to take over the job. *cough* MILES/spoiler]

I seems like Peter forgot what he told Tony in Civil War. And Infinity War for that matter. Just realized what felt off to me about how he was written here. If you have the power to stop something and don’t act, it’s on you. He can’t be the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man if there’s no neighborhood. Cut to here: I just want to kiss MJ and other people can handle the problems.

There is a way they could have had him still want to focus on that, and struggle with wanting to do what’s right. Being reluctant to be a superhero given the fallout of Endgame totally makes sense. But that core of Peter that truly makes him a hero isn’t really in this movie. He gets dragged along and forced to be a hero in the first half and the second half is fixing a mistake. Not exactly heroic, esp compared to what else we have seen from this iteration.

Shit, he literally leaves the girl at the dance in Homecoming because he had to do what’s right.

One could argue the Blip and it’s fallout changed him. But man, that core of Peter missing really irks me.

There’s plenty of illogical stuff going on but I was too delighted to care in this case. Everyone was too likeable and fun to watch. The intro video holy hell

From a high school video productions vet, that intro video was spot on. The pixelated and watermarked images, the visible boom mic - loved it.
