Well this was every bit as lovely as I hoped it would be. Beautiful. This context really allows each of the songs to shine. Shout outs to Magic Magnet, really enjoyed that. And I feel Guard Your Gates got really overlooked the first time round, that song is great and sounds wonderful here.
I love this version of Freddy Gray Blues compared to the album version. This one is just so much better even if I still think the middle verse where he repeats the word "cop" a bunch is still really clumsy.
Yeah, this is fantastic. I love intimate KevDev. And these lines in “I Was Alive Back Then” still hit so hard: No one asks you if you’re ready When they’re handing you the baby My mother said, “Son, you can’t imagine You’ll have your mind blown, honey You’ll be crazy in love, honey.”
I don't think I'll ever forget the Devinyl split show at The Bell House (2015). It was the first time he played this live - and I think it was the first time anyone had ever heard it, since it was pre-album. I think it was also before the birth of his daughter (and if I remember correctly, just after it came to light that his wife was pregnant), so the emotion in his delivery of those lines and the feeling in the room was just so awe-inspiring. I always think about it when I listen to this song.
I don’t think we’ll see anything this year. I think new Bad Books is coming so that’ll probably take precedent. I know his plan was to take a break anyways so he could tour with Brand New, but we all know how that turned out.
He’s still touring in shorter stinks and releasing material once every months and half or so with the Devinyl stuff. Originals and covers. He’s keeping busy. Just not 12 song new album on his own busy. Plus the St Patrick’s Day stuff and as mentioned Bad Books. He very active right now. Just not album cycle tour cycle.
