Nobody itt has praised Kanye for being a good guy who does good things, nobody has made excuses, defended, or advocated for forgetting (or forgiving) anything he's done. You can hide behind general statements all you want, but none of this addresses the fact that your posts have caused people (many of which are marginalized) to leave the site, which directly impacts the community and the cause. Instead of addressing it, you brag about how you're going to...keep doing it? Right after someone explains how it's affected them? It's directly at odds with what you say you care about, so which is it? Do you care about people feeling welcome in this community or not?

 

I had a lot of fun experiencing the stream with those here last night. I'm hoping to have more moments like that across many threads for many more albums. Thank you for making my listening experiences more social.

It's pretty simple, if Anthony's acknowledging the elephant in the room makes you feel guilty and the need to justify or rationalize, there is at least a part of you that feels guilty for your actions. Whether you are aware of that or not is up to you and how honest you want to be with yourself.

I'd also like to point out (and say with EXTREME confidence) there's people responding to Anthony right now that have absolutely drove marginalized people off of this site as well.

 

I know this isn’t a 1:1 parallel, but I imagine for some people, checking out Donda is sort of similar to how someone can see so much MCU content and reconcile consuming those movies with the Josh Brolin domestic abuse allegations that have been circulating since 2004 and the allegations around Jeremy Renner from a couple years ago and all the wack things Scarlet Johansson has said and the overtly unethical and imperialistic strategy of Disney as a whole. Those things aren’t right and no one wants to support them, but we all consume art and entertainment that comes from people and companies we think of ourselves as morally opposed to. That’s just a fact. If you think the way you are trying to keep up with accountability here is productive and good, by all means keep doing you. But I personally have found that giving some benefit of the doubt and good faith, especially on a community like this that’s relatively small and where everyone basically knows each other and is *mostly* on the same page, has led to more interesting and thoughtful interactions. That’s all I really have.

 

I would say this is a misreading of what is happening right now

 

There is definitely some level of guilt I feel when I listen to Brand New or pay attention to new Kanye, but I promise you Anthony’s posts do NOTHING to evoke that. It’s also hardly an elephant in the room when pretty much every user here brings up the issues with Kanye without saying dumb troll-y shit like “there’s that MAGA red!”

 

Haha I was wondering this too. Like, ok, you can have the second post of every album thread to gather everything people should know before they listen, but once they've acknowledged it, you're not allowed to go in and repeatedly bother them about it

 

The sooner you realize there’s pretty much 0 moderation on this website, the better you’ll be lol.

 

The problematic artist tag on a thread is a no-win situation. I’ve asked numerous times how we could do it/where the line should be drawn, and no one seems to have an answer. A disruption in the thread by a poster seems to be the most effective way to get people talking.


What that poster says and how they interact with other people…that’s a whole other thing

 

Ive seen you try this with JJR in numerous threads and it mostly gets ignored. Disruption typically doesn’t work in most of these threads. It does in here because of who the thread is about.

 

You know what, you're right. I really do need to just let it go, the mods and most of the users are clearly happy with the site as-is so why should I care so much anymore.

Sorry everyone, truly. I get that this is the site you want and I need to learn that I shouldn't try to fuck with that anymore. You won't hear any more problems from me in the future. I know it won't be easy to forgive me for what I've said over the years but I hope you can find it in your hearts to do so one day.

There’s literally no solution to it at all.

 

I have, lol, numerous times. It helps me figure out what posters I don’t need to take seriously. Do I give a fuck if they ignore me and continue listening to Matt Skiba? No. Does me posting have a .000001% chance of letting someone know that an artist is problematic and therefore potentially gets them to stop listening/speak out? Yes, so I continue to do it.

 

you and anthony are two of the most blocked people on the entire site.
I appreciate both of you. I’ve found that a lot of bands/artists suck ass from both of you.
But the vast majority of people here unfortunately just do not give a shit.

 

I can go quote all the posts of people saying “I didn’t know about the JJR situation, can you explain” after one of my posts. There’s a decent amount, and a solid number of those discussions end with people agreeing that the bands that stuck with him shouldn’t be supported.
Now if I jumped into the next TWY thread with the pic of band members hanging out with him last year and some snarky comment, I don’t think that would happen

I completely agree that the way people here callously neglect that they could be really impacting someone's mental health in a dire way just to remind someone for the umpteenth time that they think Matt Skiba is problematic and YOU'RE the bad person for still talking about Blink sometimes really takes away from how good natured they pretend to be.
