I figure there have to be a bunch of JOA fans around here. New album out June 1st on Joyful Noise. Preorder: Joan of Arc | 1984 | Joyful Noise Recordings Tracklist: Tiny Baby Vertigo Punk Kid Maine Guy People Pleaser Psy-fi / Fantasy Truck Vermont Girl Forever Jung
The musical concept for the album is really intriguing, and I'm quite enjoying this song. Also, that blue and clear pinwheel vinyl is gorgeous.
Even if I don't always love everything they put out, I do love and respect that they're always evolving and trying something new.
this is so weird and so beautiful the Gap is one of my fav albums and there are a couple more of their albums I love excited for this new album, song is an amazing little thing
This is the most I've liked a Joan of Arc record in a while. Melina Ausikatis' voice is beautifully haunting and definitely is the backbone of this record
i've been listening to their earlier records a lot recently and decided to revisit 1984 and he's got the whole this land... and both of them are great records that im enjoying a lot more now than i did before. what strikes me most about both records, particularly he's got the whole this land..., is how overblown some of the reviews were about it being a frustrating listen or whatever. like, a lot of hgthtl.... has this really cool and strange groove that's somewhere between posthardcore and an industrial drum machine that gives this unease through the record, the vocal melodies are largely v melodic and shockingly sticky on both records, and both of them have an emphasis on these songs as songs and not indefinite experimental / drone soundscapes or smth. Melina Ausikatis definitely takes 1984 to another level tho, wouldn't mind if more records traded off between who sings "lead" or whatever
