Hailu absolutely rocks. I found him when he opened a few shows for Parquet Courts (a band i appreciate more the older i get), of all acts. So good!

That was probably one of the best shows I’ve ever seen, he performed with a bunch of guests including Mndsgn, Bilal, and the 100-year-old Marshall Allen of Sun Ra. Everything was improvised on the spot and 3k spoke to the crowd a lot - just truly a magical night.

Went from that to Agharta, which also ruled! Need to keep exploring- what should I check out next by him? (Already familiar with IASW and Sketches of Spain)

  8. Electric Miles' Live-Evil, In a Silent Way, and Tribute to Jack Johnson are required listening in addition to BB and Agharta. I also love Black Beauty and the Cellar Door sessions for that era. Then once you feel like it can't get any weirder try On the Corner. Get Up With It and onward it gets choppy.

The acoustic crash course would be something like...

Early: Birth of the Cool, Walkin/Cookin/Relaxin/Steamin/Workin series

First Great Quintet: 'Round Midnight, Miles Ahead, Milestones, Kind of Blue

2GQ: ESP, Miles Smiles, Sorcerer, Nefertiti, Miles in the Sky

"Third Stream": Porgy And Bess, Sketches of Spain

Bolded my favs but love all of them

Fuck yeah. I’ve been big on In A Silent Way and the complete sessions since first hearing them. I’ve only recently started branching out, a little intimidated by the discography and how different every last release is, so I appreciate the breakdown

    Yoooo

been on a huge jazz kick through my friends 59 hour playlist of jazz he likes. Been going nuts lately. Even for my daughter into “The Turnaround” by Big John Patton.

can we all agree that Bobby hutcherson is the hot sauce of blue note?

My jazz head friend has this playlist of all his favorite stuff. Been my intro into the deep dive of jazz. I have described myself as a “jazz poser” for many years, knowing only the basics but I’ve been really in love with this deep dive

I hate Christmas music, but when done in a soulful way by Robert Glasper? Guess they’re not too bad.
