Wow. Genuinely surprised they decided not to move forward. Yeah must’ve been a preeeetty bad pilot to cancel a pretty guaranteed money maker.
just came to post this. Holy shit. they must have gotten a much better treatment from this team and said fuck it and just decided to drop the other show for this one, because that was a really quick turn around
With all the money HBO is spending acquiring content for HBO Max, I am not entirely surprised that they are not going to produce a new GOT show that would probably cost millions per episode
They didn't just create the show today, lol. Regardless of what other shows HBO is currently working on, the decision to not make the Naomi one saves them a shit ton of money
I hope they do it as an “anthology” of sorts where they spend a season on different parts of the House Targaryen history, because then we’d def get Balerion. But I think the general consensus is this will be about the Dance, which means no Balerion ....it would mean we get to meet Vhagar and Vermithor though, two of the most badass dragons
Kind of a rough day in the GoT world... I am actually bummed. I was much more excited about the Naomi Watts show that was set waaay back in the past with the green wood elf looking people than I am about anything even remotely close to the GoT time period. At the end of the day though, I don't think they should even be doing any GoT prequels at all... I think the best way to make the 'next Game of Thrones' is to just keep making high quality programs and see what catches on. For HBO or any of the other networks, streaming platforms, content creators, etc. It was such a huge cultural phenomenon.
The world GRRM built is just so rich with material at this point that any network would be foolish not to try and cash in on it considering they now have demonstrated widespread interest in said world. I think calling it a 'prequel' almost does it a disservice in terms of how connected it would be to the current day events of Game of Thrones. Unless they do a series on Robert's Rebellion, most of these shows would be more like companions to the Game of Thrones "extended universe" than true prequels
You touch on here partly why I was more excited about a show set in the distant past of that world. While I suppose it would technically fit the definition of 'prequel' if you are being a stickler, it is more just telling another story from that rich world. It seems like splitting hairs or just arguing semantics, but to use a Star Wars analogy, it would be the difference between a movie about Darth Vader as a little kid and a film set in the Knights of the Old Republic time period. 4,000 years is a long time. Mixes things up a little bit and keeps it (slightly) fresh(er).
Agreed somewhat...I do think they ran the risk of not feeling as fresh simply because it was gonna be the same exestential threat as it was in GOT, the Night King coming to kill us all. I was still excited for that because the Age of Heroes and meeting Bran the Builder and (possibly) Azor Ahai and his flaming sword and etc....but at the same time we’d have the same overall story (Save the world from the ice zombie king) but without the familiar Houses and families....in fact I was both excited but nervous about how Westeros in the time of the First Men was going to be portrayed. maybe we’ll get it some day. But doing the Targ history does give them a lot of the ‘palace intrigue’ with familiar family names, but still with totally different circumstances.
bummer if they weren’t aware. It’s crazy how they went full show order with this one. But I guess when GRRM is involved, it gives your treatment a little more oomph
How the 'Game of Thrones' episode Battle of the Bastards forever changed TV One of the best episodes of TV ever. I didn't think they'd be able to top Hardhome as far as "battles" go until BotB
