This isn't pop, it's just bad. This will sound very dated in a couple years. Sad seeing a band I loved turn into this.
...that's because I haven't posted yet ;) I would love another album in the vein of TTTYG or FUCT. I also like the more recent albums, but I still turn on those two early ones and get amped, and it isn't just because of nostalgia. I haven't listened to this new track yet, but look forward to doing so once the school day is over.
It's weird to see everyone say something about how this song will sound dated in a couple of years when that is literally the case for every single song in the existence of humanity. Beethoven made great music for his time, but it definitely sounds dated and the list goes on and on and on. Just a bad argument.
Personally I think these guys are in a completely different phase in their careers and for the most part I haven't gone down that path with them since they came back. This song seems like something I will be annoyed by for the next 4 months while drunk in an Uber. Though it's less apparent in this one, I'm annoyed about how much they are relying on hooks, samples and references from other songs. Call it sampling, call it an homage, call it whatever, but I would like to hear a single that doesn't rely on that. Centuries, Uma Thurman, now this. I dunno. Maybe I'm just a jaded, former fan. Don't @ me.
No, it'll sound like how 2009-era Skrillex sounds dated already. I never expect you to criticize this band, I'm sure you have great connections there that wouldn't want to be tarnished, I get it.
Arguments so far that are absolutely wrong just on a factual level: -How will they play this song live? -Where are the drums? -Where are the instruments? -This will be dated in a couple of years. Am I missing any? The only real criticism I've seen that makes any kind of sense is them relying on hooks a little too much. I can understand that argument even if it doesn't bother me at all.
I've gotten into my fair share of spats with Jason over the years, but the one thing I will say is that he has no problem criticizing a band even if he seems to enjoy the band members as people. The best example I can come up with is The Wonder Years. So, I don't think he would even remotely say he likes a band just because he doesn't want his connections to be "tarnished." You're just digging your hole deeper and deeper.
All music doesn't sound dated after time. Music written to cash in on current trends tends to sound noticeably dated. Does Deja sound dated? Blink's s/t?
Like all the way from TTTYG to this song. That's one of the elements that has stayed true of this band from the beginning. So, I can understand the argument if you don't like super catchy hooks, but I've been completely okay with this since the first time I heard TTTYG. In fact, it's one of the attributes that got me into the band.
Patrick voice sounds incredible as usual but jeeez what the hell was that song? I was just not expecting it at all haha. I just can't get my head around how the hell this will translate live.
Was secretly hoping they were going to head back in the direction of Folie/prior, as opposed to more down this path. This is just bizarre, even for modern FOB. Do any of them even play their instruments anymore? Disappointed.
What do you mean real criticism? Like it's a matter of opinion whether people like it or not. I'm sure whatever reason they have for not liking it is real to them.
