Yeah I know the coin flip scene at the counter has been memed to death but when you watch it in context the absolutely smothering dread is worthy of a horror movie.

Finding out Del Toro sat beside William Friedkin every day while he directed his final movie because they wouldn't insure him without a backup just makes me love the big guy even more, which I wasn't sure was possible.

Like Wenders casting Fuller and Ray or Lucas/Coppola funding Kurosawa's films. Using your success to give back to your heroes is just the best.

I did a rewatch of Rings Of Power this weekend, and now I am rewatching The Hobbit movies. These are even worse now in comparison to RoP.

Reminds me of the last day of the Twister ride at Universal Orlando before it closed dozens of people showed up wearing all denim.

Always loved Conan’s parody of the coin toss scene. Sadly, very potato quality video.

One thing I realized doesn't make sense in Jurassic Park, was John Hammond really planning on doing the DNA pre-show presentation of that ride multiple times a day every day when the park opened? Or were they planning on having a Jurassic Park castmember in costume as John Hammond?

If anyone wants to join, in the Horror Thread we're creating a Halloween/October watch list kinda similar to Hooptober, if you're familiar.

The list will be as long as the number of people participating (i.e. 15 people participating = 15 movies). Everyone gets to make up one criteria for one horror movie to watch in October (i.e. Watch the 4th installment of any franchise, Watch a movie from the '80s from woman director, etc.)

Come to the Horror Thread to throw your name in the hat.

I've thought about this a lot, and my conclusion is that was a demo just for them and there's an alternate cut that would be a castmember.

At the Fast and Furious ride at Universal Orlando the characters "talk" to real-life employees "Pat" and "Jamie". I thought it was pretty obvious they picked some gender-neutral names so that anyone can step in and play the roles on the ride but my friend said what happens if Jamie and Pat quit their jobs and if Ludacris will re-record his lines.

I am teaching about metaphors in literature today but since kids don't read I am referencing movies and television as a hook. What are some other contemporary ones they might know?

  23. Godddd all I can think about now is how shitty it feels when you’re trying to be witty or clever but you make a typo.

For whatever it’s worth, the X-Men are more of a general minority politics thing (depending on the story; in the 80s it was a very Jewish perspective) than specifically Civil Rights.

And, these days, it probably maps best onto queerness, with the puberty angle and that on-the-nose quote from the movie X2, “have you tried not being a mutant?”

Though, if you wanna talk about the limitations of metaphor, you could talk about how incoherent & problematic it is when people try to map MLK & Malcolm X onto Xavier & Magneto, lol.
