Tonight I have a double feature of Hereditary and Jason Takes Manhattan

 

Can't say I'd finish the list but I'd be happy to contribute an idea or two

 

Okay cool.

I'm keeping a list. We'll give people a few days to sign up and then give a week or so for people to come up with their pick. Like 10 - 15 would probably be doable for most.

 

So you want us to let you know which category we want? I’ll take any of them tbh

 

Oh no I was thinking we make our own list. Each person gets to create whatever pick they want. Then we all watch the list. Does that make sense?

 

Ahh gotcha, i thought you meant like we all collectively would make one for the thread

 

Did The Menu tonight. I felt like I was in hell the entire time - and that’s a compliment. I had no idea where things were going and the constant tension mixed with the absurd humor and terrifying consequences had me hook, line, and sinker. It’s going to stick with me for a long time.

I confused by what you mean about letting me know what category you want we'll be making up the categories each person makes up one for the collective list.

 

Ahhhh okay I get it now I think. I thought we were still using the Hooptober 10 template/criteria that’s already out there

 

Haha to be honest I didn't know there was a criteria, I thought they just made up a new list every year. We can follow that or just let people make up whatever type of pick they want. I'll look into the template.

 

It’s pretty much the same framework each year but with new prompts. It’s all just one guy on Letterboxd that has gained a pretty big following (Cinemonster)

 

so... we're each contributing to the collective criteria we'll use for the thread?

 

Yeah I was thinking of just keeping it simple. 31 will be hard for a lot of people especially if they're already doing Hooptober, so I thought the list would just be as long as the number of people participating (i.e. 15 people participating = 15 movies). Everyone makes up one criteria for one movie. Haha I feel like I'm terrible at explaining this, but let me know if that makes sense, also open to any suggestions.

This year's Hooptober criteria below:

There must be 31 films
6 countries
8 decades
2 post apocalyptic or natural disaster related films
1 film with Robert Englund
1 something is underground film
3 Satan/Devil centered films
1 Amicus film.
The worst Dracula film (by Letterboxd rating) that you haven't seen and can access.
1 LGBTQ+ connected film
5 Films from De Palma, Wes Craven, Ken Russell, Hitchcock and/or Moorhead & Benson.
2 Peter Cushing films
1 film based on a work of or invoking the name Bram Stoker
1 film based on a Clive Barker story
1 film that was released the year that you turned 10
1 Mario Bava film.
1 film with an 'x' in the title
And 1 Tobe Hooper film (there must always be a Hooper film)

This is just for reference though. Like Daniel stated, we can come up with our own categories and films to fit them.

Yeah our picks will be like these. There won't be any with multiple movies or overarching criteria like the countries and decades, unless we want to set those as a group.

I won't pick but I'll try and watch along, have been out of the horror game most of the year sadly.

 

Aww come on do a pick too, it can be something super simple like "watch a movie from the year you were born." You'll have a lot of time to think about it.

 

Yeah, I'd be interested in like watching along, but don't feel I could pull off a pick of my own haha.

 

I think y'all are overthinking it. It could literally be anything you want as long as it gives people some choices on what to pick. It could be like "watch a killer doll movie". I'm giving away gold over here.
