Oof, that's bleak.

 

It's funny because Apple has some of the better, more creative shows but all their movies look like fake movies.

Yeah, I can give you a fairly decent list of their shows I've watched and enjoyed, but I can't remember a single movie from TV+ besides the Billie Eilish documentary (which doesn't count technically).

 

Causeway and Coda were both outside companies

 

The Tragedy of Macbeth was fantastic

 

I forgot about MacBeth, though I thought it was just okay.

 

You know I’m an English teacher because my eye twitched when you capitalized the B in Macbeth

Boosting bad takes is sometimes annoying to me. But, then I’ll see something funny like that and think, “I’m so glad Twitter hasn’t fully died yet.”

 

Also, sure it wasn’t doing Marvel numbers, but Nope did pretty well at the box office.

 

It’s also a better movie than all the MCU has put out the last couple years.

 

I mean, yeah, I guess that's true, if only because Nope is just that darn good, but I personally think the MCU's recent output has been overall much better than it was in the past, although I do favor diversity in representation over "quality" when it comes to that kind of thing

I judge by quality and sadly, phase 4 was all over the place quality wise. And very little was top tier. Wakanda Forever had great representation, but it did not work for me. I should have related to Shuri in losing a sibling and I just didn’t care about her character in it. I found the ending battle very silly. Iron heart was just a plot device. I didn’t feel bad for the Queen dying because I think she deeply mistreated Okoye. A lot of pieces just didn’t work or connect for me. It’s overly long and left me feeling practically nothing.

Representation is important. But it just doesn’t add “points” to how I feel about a movie. Sometimes lack of representation can make me view a movie as lesser, but it all depends on context.

Nope is better than every superhero movie.

 

I don't necessarily disagree, but just out of curiosity, what do you think is the best superhero movie?

 

The Burton and Schumacher Batman movies are interesting, albeit for different reasons. The second X-Men felt more adult than most of the competition. Is MacGruber a superhero?

 

Him being a superhero is the only explanation for his throat-ripping ability

 

Is it just me or are the ads and previews before a movie starts getting longer? I clocked 30 minutes between the posted showtime and the start of Mario and then 36 minutes today until Beau is Afraid (already a 3 hour movie) started.
