I couldn’t find another thread to talk about this, but I finally watched Another Round and wow, absolutely incredible. I don’t think I can think of another film that deals so acutely between the teetering act between the joyous ability for alcohol to bring people together as a social and psychological drug as well as a destructive crutch that can obliterate and consume yourself. I’ve dealt with bouts of severe alcohol abuse and the movie was pitch perfect, especially with how sudden the change between the two can be. It also even goes into our perception of alcohol is defined generationally, how we yearn for the old days and the rose colored glasses we put on as we get older. Starting the film as it does was perfect and I’m leaning towards seeing it again. It’s a rare film that, while it may not connect with everyone, has connected with me on a deeply personal level.

today i watched inherent vice for the first time since it was in theaters, and i'm no longer regarding it as PTA's redheaded stepchild movie. sorry i (essentially) ever did

Give me a 4 hour cut of Bio-Dome and then I won’t hate the idea of all directors releasing extended cuts of dumb movies.

 

This is why the "let people enjoy things" discourse misses the point. The machine is actively consuming everything around it.

 

I’m definitely prepared to be wrong on this, but I’m cautiously optimistic about that Zatanna movie. I rewatched Jessica Jones last week and thought it was a rare occasion of having a lead character with a superpower adding nuance to the story in regards to all three seasons being about the cycle of abuse and trauma. Emerald Fennell has, in my opinion, the talent to potentially do something similar but a machine’s a machine so who knows

It would be funnier if Rogen was young Spielberg. Imagine him playing Spielberg while he tries to make Jaws.
