0_o He hasnt been at that level for awhile lol. Go check out like...his last 3 solo albums...his last 3 bright eyes albums....and Desa. He hasnt been like that for ages. He still does it, just like on this album, but not as much. Does anyone know what books/authors he's talking about in "A little uncanny" in the ronald regan verse?
more than last 3 bright eyes album. ...... like Digital ash, I'm wide awake its morning, casadega, people's key, self titled solo record, upside down mountain, album with the mystic valley band, album with monsters of folk, Desa ha
Not positive but considering he's talking about Reagan and "making a joke of poor people" i.e. capitalism, I'd guess that he means communist writers like Vladimir Lenin.
That's the way I was taking that too, wanted to make sure I wasnt missing something more specific. Cool!
I had already said , "Go check out like...his last 3 solo albums...his last 3 bright eyes albums....and Desa. He hasnt been like that for ages." haha.
Anyone who likes this should definitely check out Keaton Henson, he just released a new album last month. Thread is here.
oh yeah, my initial comment was talking in general how far he's come in terms of vocals since the beginning, or that's what I meant. It was spurred because I'd been listening to a lot of the early stuff recently, and so the contrast was more stark as a result.
Conor Oberst will have a 7" released on Black Friday/Record Store Day. Tachycardia/Afterthoughts Afterthoughts is a b-side to Ruminations.
Yeah it's been discussed in the Bright Eyes thread. Just waiting for my preorder of the vinyl box set to show up.
This album is exactly what I was hoping for from Conor. Could definitely see this finding a place on my EOTY list.
I think this will end up in my top ten for the year too. Crazy how many albums that will make that list are out within a month of each other (this, John K Samson, JEW, Joyce Manor, maybe Balance).
The closer, "Till St. Dymphna Kicks Us Out", is such a perfect way to conclude this album. Might be my favorite track on here.
