Slowly starting to read some more of my trades that have been sitting on my shelf for what feels like forever. Yesterday I read Batman Vol. 10: Epilogue and thought it was okay. Really enjoyed that last Snyder/Capullo issue, but felt a little like a meh ending for a wonderful run. Today I read through Haunted Knight and thought that was pretty enjoyable. Definitely some fun Halloween stories. Not sure what I'll read next, but I still have to go back to From Hell since I only got like 20-30 pages into it haha. Mostly just want to be able to return it to my friend soon.
I'm really enjoying The War of Jokes and Riddles so far. I think the thing I love about Tom King's Batman is how much time he spends in Bat's head. Dude can write a monologue/narration with the best of them. echoing @Vivatoto about Seven to Eternity. that artist switch up bummed me out. I hope to get caught up on God Country and Birthright this weekend. Gonna check out some of those Spidey recs too if I get a chance. Prob gonna wait a week or two to see the movie. What is everyone reading this weekend?
Joe Kelly's Supergirl (this shit makes no sense) Peter David's Supergirl (this shit makes no sense) The Demon v2 Waid's Flash v2 Hopefully some Fables
I've been looking forward to this for a while. It looks like it's going to be incredible. I love Sean Murphy.
How did I not know this thread existed? Starting really getting into comics the past month or so. Read vol 1 of East of West, first few New 52 Batman trades, and have been looking to start either something in the X-men or Spiderman realm.
So I've heard! I enjoyed the first volume even though they kind of keep you in the dark from what is really going on until the end. I need to get on continuing!
Welcome! There are a few Spider-Man recommendations that we put together to go with Homecoming's release over here Movie - Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017)
Thanks! I actually think I saw Blue at a local Half Price Books the other day. I was gonna start with Ultimate but maybe I'll go pick that up instead!
Joe Kelly's Supergirl is somehow more confusing than David's. Not having the context for the DC universe makes it extremely hard to follow. Each issue jumps around in time so much its just impossible to know much of what is actually going on.
For X-Men, the best starting point is probably either Morrison's New X-Men or Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. I also personally love recommending the first volume of All-New Wolverine (X-23 taking over the mantle of Wolverine after Logan died). For Spider-Man, I personally think Blue is the best place to start, but Ultimate Spider-Man is also a great choice. Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows is a pretty sweet alternative reality story, too.
That whole Supergirl run is fillled with inconsistencies and retcons. Sterling Gates wrote a decent run, but DC literally had no idea what to do with Supergirl around that time. Fun fact, Nick Spencer was hired to write her during that volume and only got a few issues in before he was poached by Marvel.
MARVEL LEGACY Titles Will Include 3-Page Recap 'Primers' This sounds awesome. Love Mark Bagley. I'd totally buy a collection of just all these recaps.
Hi folks, new to the thread and comics in general. I've always been a casual Spider-Man fan but I think it's time to go deeper. I guess my main thing is it seems very overwhelming. How do you know what's cannon and what's an alternate reality? What's the difference between amazing, ultimate, etc? Does it matter? Should I subscribe to something? I'm as noob as it gets here.
Amazing is the main title, Ultimate is set in the Ultimate universe which is gone now but I still think it's a great place to start reading if you want an easy entry. If you want to know more about any specific books you can either look up more about them or just ask in here, chances are someone will be able to help you. There's some recommendations for Spider-Man comics that have just gone up in the thread for Homecoming if you want to check any of those out.
Like SpyKi said, look for the post on the News homepage. A few of us wrote up some blurbs for different Spidey books to read for new readers. It all depends actually. What kind of Spidey story do you want to read?
She's kinda weird. The thread turned into people telling her that her reasoning for not liking the book is what people against diversity in comics say. She threw a fit and left the group. Only a few threads in the group get to the point of deletion and that was one of them.
