In terms of my Talk Talk pick, if you like their poppier stuff on the album, move backwards in the discography. If you liked April 5th, move to Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock. Tbh, I think everyone should give those two a shot. Really changed the way I’ve listened to music in the past few years.

The famous Hollis quote that sticks with me re: those albums, “The silence is above everything, I'd rather hear one note than I would two, and I would rather hear silence than I would hear one note.”

The atmosphere and intimacy created by those two records (and then even more by Mark Hollis’s self titled album) is unrivaled by any other music I’ve heard. Side 2 of In a Silent Way by Miles Davis is the only thing I’ve found that is close.

That Steve Hiett album rules. Didn’t know this thread was a thing. If we’re rec’ing Talk Talk, Miles Davis, and Steve Hiett, then I need to be a part of this conversation.

  13. I don’t think the Steve Hiett record is on Apple Music (unless I’m just totally missing it?), but I can grab it from the YouTube link.

Will check out the Steve Hiett record tonight. I'll probably end up revisiting Talk Talk soon as well.

I felt pretty similarly. I love the way this thing sounds, but it’s just didn’t grab me. I can see it growing on me though.

I prefer Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock over The Colour of Spring, but they’re all good. Very much growers that never stop growing.

The Steve Hiett record is very good. Perfect hot weather music. Production has a very modern feel to it. I would have never guessed it was from the 80s if you didn’t tell me
