  1. I got to experience that when they played Omaha a couple years ago.

What happened was they started playing You Stole, and partway through the first verse they stopped because some fans had begun clapping out of time (is there any other way to clap?). They stopped the song, Jesse and Vin had a few jokes about clapping and it throwing off their playing, which led to them joking that it could turn the song into a reggae performance. Then, Vin starts strumming it like that with the others joining in on the madness for ~30 seconds.

I thought for sure someone would capture it and post the footage. But, here we are almost two years later and nothing to show.

Everyone complaining about no new brand new music: if you havnt listened to The Felix Culpa - Sever Your Roots... You need to because it's better than LP5.

    Yes it is good eye!

Well to be fair I should revisit that album. It felt overlong and I wasn't particularly impressed but it also wasn't bad either.

Lifestory wow, that's a band I havnt listened to in a LONG time. Cool band. And Canadian so props there.

Sever can take a few listens to sink in. It's very dense. Listening to it while giving it attention for the first time can help. If you just have it on in the background it may seem likes its all just blending together because their song transitions are extremely seamless a lot of the time.

This review for Sever Your Roots on RYM has always made me laugh. The part about the singer swallowing lol I don't remember hearing that haha

"There's a good number of moments to enjoy on this record, despite a few flaws:

Length) I'm not sure it warrants needing over an hour's worth. However, the most consistent section of the album is the last 1/3. Pretty much from Track 9 "Rum & Cigarettes" on.

Their singer Swallowing) it only happens in short, subtle spots, but it does grate on me like a kankersore when it happens. Primarily for a tenth of a second during some of the quiet sections

Cymbals clipping) it's not really excessively bad (and nothing compared to dozens of other songs and albums that are ruined by it), but it shows up enough here and there to not ignore

Hardcore Screaming) At times it doesn't hurt it, but there's definitely enough of it to wish it could be done less or maybe even differently.

All those issues aside, there's a lot of interesting music on here. Some nice progressive rock moments, and surprisingly well used personal lyrics, almost to the point the emotional sides make sense.

The length (the fact it has 14 songs + a bonus disc with the reissue I picked up has 3 more tracks, in some kind of suite titled "Bury the Axe") issues could be something that fades. But the overall sound comes off as bluesy emotional art-rock. It was dedicated to a "Jeffrey Allen Coan" the father of the singer/drummer Joel I think?

A bit of a dichotomy in that this band has lot to like, but overall they don't score as high as I might hope. Perhaps their follow up will go futher.

One album that I definitely recommend is this one released last year. I saw them with Citizen and they were fantastic. Influenced by Brand New and they pull it off well.

The Things We Think Are Missing by Balance and Composure always gave me minor Brand New vibes. Back Of Your Head feels like B&C's version of You Won't Know.

pollyanna is such a great record. Colour Revolt - The Cradle anyone? I've never thought their sound was that much like brand new but they're kinda in that scene or whatever

I think a lot of us discovered Colour Revolt because of Brand New. IMO the EP and Plunder Beg and Curse are more essential listening than The Cradle is, though.

Speaking of Colour Revolt, a band that basically no one knows about but should is The Glass Ocean. They only put out one ep sadly but it's as good/if not better than Colour Revolt. Very similar but they had their own thing going on. A real shame they never released anything else. The Ep is called Put on the Wooden Overcoat. Came out in 08.
