October reading. This year has gone fast.

Been a long time since I've updated so there's a lot of bolded stuff there. Finished the Malazan series which was the best. I also just finally finished the Hyperion Cantos and every book got so much better, this one was mindblowing. Essex County and Y the Last Man were my standouts for comics. Also Scarlet. Ooh and Sweet Tooth.

I've slowed down reading actual books over the past few months with work being busy but listened to alot of audiobooks

    2018 final.

Should I make a 2019 thread? Interest definitely waned here throughout the year.

  8. I like having the thread. I do browse it occasionally to see what everyone else is reading even if the discussion is mostly in the main book thread.

I like having a thread. I can't speak for everyone but I just edit my original post instead of making a new post so that might account for low activity. Guess we could combine the two threads and list our books in the main book thread though

I like having a second thread, but wanted to ask just in case. I flirted with the idea of mentioning doing a book club at one point, but it fell apart when a few of us tried with a fantasy series so I'm not sure how well it would work.

Yeah book clubs can be kinda rough. I'm kind of picky in what I read and I already have such a big backlog of books to get through. I'd probably only participate if it was a book already on my radar. But I'm in for a 2019 reading list thread. And maybe we'll make an unofficial rule to add a new post (not just edit) when you update so it's more obvious people are participating and you can see what people are reading

Damn @Vivatoto you really did go all in on malazan. I read the first one years ago and while I liked it, I'm also not entirely sure I understood what was going on. Considering you read the series and all the accompanying text I'm assuming you recommend I give it a proper shot?

Sooooooo much. The first book is not a good representation of the series and you're definitely going to be confused until book two when you get big revelations and things start falling into place. Honestly it was probably around book 6 where I was head over heels in love, at book 7 Erickson's prose suddenly becomes my favorite ever and every sentence is like a gift. I also didn't feel comfortable calling it my favorite fantasy series of all time until I read the last book and the prequels and a bunch of the other authors stuff, so it's all very necessary for the full experience, but so goddamn worth it. It's actually made all other fantasy sort of tough to get into now, lol.

Interesting. I do own book 2 and 3, but would probably need to go back and reread 1 first. I know I've mentioned the three body problem to you before, maybe it's time to give fantasy a break and read some sci-fi!

Ugh, I know, very much looking forward to that one but I'm attempting to stick with one series at a time and I'm really digging R Scott Baker at the moment. I might try to pop it in before I get back to Abercrombie. I'm assuming I'll probably want to read through the whole series right away.

    Couple things:

    1) where do you get/read most of your comics/GN?

    2) Are you interested in/have you read No Man's Land novel?

    3) what was your favorite comic/GN/series you read in 2018?

Finally updated this. Went on a pretty big comics binge, which evened things out with my book consumption a bit. With my Stephen King podcast up and running now, there will be a lot more of his books on my 2019 list. Looking forward to trying to squeeze in other books while reading those.

1.Well funny enough this list doesn't include anything that I buy from my LCS and all the new issues I'm keeping up with....Just stuff that I either buy from Amazon or some of the complete series like Astro City or Spawn (which I didn't even add since that will never end) I read online, though I try to cut down on that.

2.I am interested in it, the only problem is I want to read the No Man's Land comics first. I've been set up to read them for awhile now, having read everything that leads up to it, but it's still a lot of money for I think 4 volumes. I very much need to though.

3.Well, Tom King's Batman is the best ongoing series, Hack Slash Resurrection was also absolutely fantastic and you NEED to read it. As far as stuff on this list I would say Vision, The Boys, Jupiter's Circle/Legacy, Nameless and Miracleman

I figured you had already completed No Man's Land based on the tie-in stuff.

I've been interested in the past just never gotten around to it and basically got rid of all but a very select few comics and graphic novels.

I've been wanting to do a full Batman run through of Snyder through King's stuff but that seems like I might get burned out by the end haha.

I STILL haven't completed Hack/Slash or Locke & Key cuz I'm the worst
