Yooo AMC not fucking around we got trailers for Ant Man and the Wasp, Infinity War, Venom, Deadpool 2, Solo, A Wrinkle in Time, Tomb Raider, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Mission Impossible: Fallout, and, uh, some Bruce Willis flick about an angry white man with guns... The movie was everything I could have hoped for. Yeah, the thematic conflict (and fight scenes) between T'Challa and Killmonger was great, but dang, the women really carry this movie. I thought the sparse humor was handled pretty well whenever it popped up, but really, I feel like this is the least Marvel-y Marvel film in a while (the other non-Marvel-y Marvel thing being The Punisher, but for very different reasons).
My theater was Cinemark, and we got Jurassic World, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Venom, M:I 6, Red Sparrow, Rampage, and Solo trailers.

i was at Brenden Theaters, which is normally AMC but this local one is privately owned (last i checked) first two trailers were Death Wish and I Feel Pretty, which annoyed the hell out of me. also, Jurassic World 2, Ant Man & the Wasp, Venom, MI:6, Solo (which was my first time seeing that trailer, interesting) speaking on the end of the film; I'm bummed that they killed off both Klaue and Kilmonger, but i'm not sure how they'd handle them as a reoccurring threat without everybody having the same mindset/reaction Daniel Kaluyya's character did when Klaue escaped. but goddamn Kilmonger was something special.
For as dumb as "give the villian a name with 'kill' in it" is as a naming scheme, I like how Kilmonger and Kilgrave are two of the most intetesting MCU villains
M’Baku becomes Man-Ape in the comics so he could be a future villain along with Kraven the Hunter (Ryan Coogler’s first choice but Marvel said no). I think the reason Killmonger was special is because of Michael B Jordan. He owned the role and was believable while making the character very intimidating. I actually felt like T’Challa was in danger.
There seems to be a connection between having the name Erik and having your race be enslaved and done wrong throughout history only for you to be betrayed by the one group of people exactly like you, and for you to come toe-to-toe philosophically with the leader of that group. Magneto and Killmonger and actually pretty similar and they are both great villains. Who would have tought.
Was able to get in with MoviePass today. I really enjoyed this. They did a great job with giving us a look at Wakanda, too. It wasn't just the "castle" so to speak. I'm still collecting my thoughts on this, but I'll absolutely be recording a podcast on it soon so I'm sure I'll be a bit more elaborate with that. Side note: I just want all of the tech from this to be real and for someone to let me play with all of it. Also, there was a guy in the theater who didn't remember who Bucky was and then talked through the entire scene pretty much.
yeah i was wondering if Buck was gonna show up at some point. when he emerged from the hut, a girl in the row in front of me straight up squealed with joy, lol. ALSO i really really thought they were gonna set up Ross to sacrifice himself at the end there. for a moment i thought he did, based on the editing! after the ship shoots through the lab as Ross runs, we don't see him again til the mid credit scene, do we?
Really wanted to see this tonight, but my friend can't go until tomorrow. Contemplating seeing it tonight anyway and then with him tomorrow.
I've only seen most MCU films once and didn't recognize Bucky until they mentioned his name *shrug* There are a lot of MCU characters to keep track of
Some women behind me were just going "Hell no. Not him. Kick him out. Send him home" which I thought was hilarious and probably good advice considering the trouble he brings. I loved this. Currently processing my thoughts but I enjoyed almost every aspect of the film. Hope costumes and make-up win all the awards.
I would put Baron Zemo in the list as well although he isn’t a favorite. It would be interesting if Killmonger ever settled down and helped T’Challa out from time to time like what Magneto does with the X-Men. He would be a very great ally if he didn’t want to cause death.
Reddit was talking about this earlier. Some people relate Wakanda to Trump due to their immigration rules and they relate Killmonger to black supremacy. This is the first time I saw Black Lives Matter mentioned though. Last time I checked they didn’t want to take over Hong Kong.
But that evil side keeps him interesting He's not wrong about everything. But he's also not right about everything. Having him settle down and see the "error of his ways" I think would betray his character.
It managed to work with Magneto, IDK. I would be open to it but I do agree that his persuit of his side is what makes him good. Not so much the error of his ways but that he can “fight another day” and fight along side Wakanda if something big comes up AKA Thanos tries to destroy Wakanda and the vibranium within it.
But like he said, he'd rather die than live in chains. Being put on lockdown until he's needed to help save the day isn't a life he wanted to live It's a tragic, unfortunate end to his character. But it's a end far more befitting of his character than some sort of redemption arc in the sequel
He wouldn’t necessarily have to be locked up inside Wakanda. He could flee once he realizes T’Challa has the upper hand only to return when the vibranium is in danger or when he has developed another plan to take out T’Challa and his family. Maybe I’m thinking of it too much in a reoccurring comic book villain way.
