Did you love Black Panther? Did it leave you wanting more of Wakanda? Well, the comic book thread here has come up with a few comic recommendations perfect for any new reader! Check 'em out, and then maybe jump into the thread for more recommendations, both for this character and anything else in the wonderful world of comics!

    Black Panther by Christopher Priest
    Writer: Christopher Priest
    Artists: various
    Buy from InStockTrades or Amazon.
“Take your best shot, I will offer no resistance, then it will be my turn.” Christopher Priest is one of the most fascinating writers in the industry. His writing is complex, his transitions are quick and focus on seemingly unimportant interactions, and he never holds the readers hands expecting you to constantly keep up. This makes for excellent, multifaceted urban noir sharing more in common with stories like the Maltese Falcon than your typical superhero romp. Still early in his career, his wonderful Black Panther run is a bit easier to get into and it's cool watching the seeds planted for what would become his identifying style. One of my favorite things he does is split each issue into multiple “chapters” complete with their own title cards. The first arc in his Black Panther run is told from the perspective of a US government official self proclaimed “Emperor of Useless White Boys,” this is where you'll find most of the comedy. T'Challa leaves Wakanda to investigate corruption in New York. In his absence, his enemies seize Wakanda from him and most of the arc finds T'Challa trying to find a way to take it back. Killmonger moves between the scenes with a small role that leads into a pretty epic confrontation in the second volume. I will say the first issue feels a bit unfriendly to those not familiar with the world (me for example), but Priest slowly rolls out a bit of an origin for us in the following issues and by the end of the first arc you'll have a pretty good grasp on the character. - @Vivatoto

Black Panther: Who is the Black Panther?
    Writer: Reginald Hudlin
    Artist: John Romita Jr
    Buy from InStockTrades or Amazon.
Black Panther by Reginald Hudlin is a great starting point if you want to learn more about the character to go along with the film release. It tackles the story of Klaw wanting to invade Wakanda. The "Who is Black Panther" story arc tells you just that. Even though this first volume in Hudlin's run is great, I highly recommend reading further. You'll get a great look at Wakanda, it's technologies, and T'Challa in this first arc that will leave you wanting more. It is certainly informative and might feel a little slow at times since the action doesn't ramp up right at the start, but it's great storytelling and world building. - @Deanna

    Black Panther: Man Without Fear
    Writer: David Liss
    Artist: Francesca Francavilla, various
    Buy from InStockTrades or Amazon.
The events for both Daredevil and Black Panther that led to this status quo would take a bit to explain, but all you need to know is this: When T'Challa lost his throne for a time, it coincided with Matt Murdock needing to take some time off from protecting Hell's Kitchen. As a result, we got some NYC crime/noir adventures from the Black Panther. This isn't much like the average Wakandan adventure for the character, but dang is it cool. Letting Francesca Francavilla lend his excellent pulpy art style to the stories certainly didn't hurt! - @Tim

Black Panther: A Nation Under Our Feet
    Writer: Ta-Nehisi Coates
    Artists: Brian Stelfreeze, Chris Sprouse
    Buy from InStockTrades or Amazon.
This yearlong storyline, which kicked off the current Black Panther series, is the strongest look into the philosophies of Wakanda that I've read. Author and journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates' first foray into comic book writing certainly doesn't carry with it the raw charm and personality of Christopher Priest's character-defining work (recommended above), but the way it tackles this fictional nation and its ideologies is effective enough to have been a notable influence on this new film. While Killmonger himself is mostly absent from this story, if you loved what he brought to the film, perhaps this is the comic for you. - @Tim

    That was the only trailer?

We had normal amount of trailers, but no Infinity War. Antman and Wasp we got though.

We did get a couple really random low budget movie trailers that looked HORRENDOUS.

The opening weekend for this film is just going to be insane.

I loved this movie. Some of the same old Marvel annoyances but a lot of great stuff here. The cast was phenomenal.

This Is Us is currently on a break so I thought I was free from Sterling K Brown tryna make me cry. Such a pleasant surprise for me him being in this movie

Yeah absolutely not, don’t know where you heard that but it’s not true at all.

You know what? That is one aspect I actually would compare to The Last Jedi. Just like TLJ, those moments worked for me. They also worked for the audience I was in, the crowd loved this movie. Lots of big laughs and clapping.

The humor is very sudden like TLJ. I can see some people complaining about it the way some did for TLJ.

I thought the humor was way more natural here than in TLJ and I loved TLJ. If someone didn’t like he opening scene of TLJ when Poe calls Hux, for example, there’s nothing like that here. It’s all humor based on the characters (Klaue being insane, T’Challa and his sister ribbing each other, etc.) and doesn’t feel forced in or cringeworthy at all.

The timing and “random” placement of it is very very similar to how TLJ handled it.

I didn’t think it was random, is what I meant. Felt very natural and didn’t contradict the overall tone of any scenes. It was either true comic relief or it occurred during moments of comparative levity. Didn’t remind me of how TLJ handled humor at all, personally.

The infinity war trailer gets me so much more fucking pumped now that I have the appreciation for T’Challa, okoye and wakanda in general.

Some of the set design reminded me of Star Wars and there’s one battle scene that reminds me of Phantom Menace.

I never cringed at them. I didnt laugh at some of them but it wasn’t because they were bad, I just wasn’t feeling all of it.

I didn’t notice any CGI that was as bad as critics have mentioned. Maybe I was just expecting worse due to people pointing it out?

Okoye was great. I was glad to see Danai show her acting abilities with a script that’s actually good!

I hope her and Shuri both make it out of Infinity War

The comedy was the main negative for me. Almost none of it worked and it felt like the standard marvel comedy being shoehorned into a movie where it didn't really fit. I was in a packed room and it was silent after a lot of the jokes.

The humor in this isn't nearly as bad as 99% of the other MCU movies. There's one very meme-y joke that could go either way but other than that it's not constant quips every other line

Some of the humor definitely felt forced to me but it's the same in a lot of the Marvel movies

I liked how there are a lot of dramatic scenes that aren’t immediately cuts to jokes. I love the Guardians movies but it’s nice to see a change in that.

$25 million earned so far. It looks like a $180 million weekend (not sure if Monday is being taken into account).

Interesting. My crowd laughed an incredible amount. They clapped at a lot of the hero shots and moments. There were audible gasps when they revealed MJB was the kid from the beginning. This crowd was just in for the ride and ready to react. It was a fun experience.

My theater is generally pretty quiet on Thursday screenings, but this had the biggest crowd for one I’ve seen since The Force Awakens.
