There was so much in this movie it's truly going to take a second viewing to get everything straight in my head:

    Random Thoughts:

    1. I enjoyed the random assortment of teams:
    - Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Bruce Banner, Wong
    - Rocket, Groot, Thor
    - Gamora, Star Lord, Mantis, Drax
    - Captain America, War Machine, Black Widow, Black Panther, Hulk, Falcon, Bucky
    - Vision Scarlet Witch

    2. I don't think Spider-Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange, etc. are really dead, but that seems to be just common knowledge. Also, I don't think Gamora is dead either. I think she is going to come back when the stone is destroyed.

    3. However, I do believe that Loki and Heimdall is dead.

    4. I thought the movie was very, very funny. I laughed as much, if not more, than I did when I watched Ragnarok.

    5. I want to know if "Valkyrie" was on the lifeboat or not and if she is alive. She was one of my favorite parts of Ragnarok and I'd hate to think she just went out like that.

    6. Teenage Groot being on his video game throughout all of his scenes was great.

    7. Spider-Man destroyed me during the last scene.

    8. I enjoyed the fact that they used Groot to help forge the ax.

    9. I'm not sure how I felt about Eitri.

    10. The black order was meh.

    11. I have more thoughts, but I need to view it again before I get into them.

But it was mentioned multiple times that he could wipe out half of all life with the snap of his fingers. Gamora definitely explained it while snapping her fingers and I believe that Thanos explained it as well. So at that point we absolutely do know what it would do without knowledge from the comics. I just don't think we needed to know WHO disappeared ... Yet.

Ill give you that. I dont remember the lines but they at least set it up but words in a movie like this. Its just hard to remember. Plus and more importantly this movie wouldnt NEARLY have the same impact and emotional feeling after watching it after seeing those characters go as if they wre to show it at the start of the next movie. At that point our connection to the war that just ensued is lost and those deaths with Peter begging Tony and Groot dying would mean even less.

Regardless of the logic that they arent gone forever, it still depressing and despairing and thats the feeling and gut punch that they wanted you to have. Even if you understood the snap it still cant give you that sense of remorse or despair.

  4. After ~10 years of character and world building, I thought this was an incredible payoff. It's by far the best Avengers movie, and right up there with top-tier MCU. I might need to see it again to know where exactly it stands for me.

Some of my biggest complaints about MCU movies are that the villains are meh and the scores for these movies are often forgettable. There were some great musical cues in this that I actually felt. Thanos might be my favorite MCU villain now. In a way, Infinity War really was his story, and I loved that.

The action set pieces, while CGI-heavy, are well realized and look great for the most part. I'm still partial to the more visceral, practical combat of WS and a lot of CW, but I understand they needed to go big with this one, and boy did they.

The ending stunned my audience, and it still hit hard for me. As an audience, a lot of us know that these characters will inevitably come back, but the characters in Infinity War don't know that (except maybe Strange?) and their pain and devastation is what I felt.

    Minor gripes
I wasn't huge on Vision in this movie, who I thought was great in AoU.
No Hulk after the beginning was a bummer, but I'm becoming more and more ok with it.
I feel like Cap kind of got the short end of the stick in this, but with so many characters it was bound to happen to some.
We see Bucky get this badass new arm, but he's shooting a gun almost the whole time :/

Favs off the top of my head
Gamora, Thanos, Thor, and Wanda were the highlight characters. They all had great moments bolstered by great performances.
New Spider-Man suit was so awesome. Although, I agree with Nathan's post above that him using it kind of undercuts the ending of Homecoming. Special circumstances sure, but still.
Comedy was great in this. I don't remember too many bits being eye-rolling or cringey.
That where they try to strip the gauntlet off Thanos might be my favorite set piece in the movie. So cool.
Enjoyed watching Black Widow and Okoye fight together.
Thor's moment of showing up in Wakanda and proceeding to wreck was glorious.
That moment of Wanda holding off Thanos while trying to destroy the Mind Stone/Vis was great and really got me.

    So assuming that this weekend...

I had the thought that the lack of Hulk means that they may be close to finally separating Bruce Banner from the Hulk.

Personally, I think the ending would be less underwhelming by not seeing who was affected by it because, as others have said, we already know that several of those characters are returning in later movies. For me, there's less emotional weight to watching deaths that we KNOW will be reversed, than the weight of going "HOLY SHIT WHO JUST DIED AND WILL THEY EVER RETURN?"

Seeing Holland's performance there was probably the best acting in the film, but I'd trade it for a more suspenseful and scary ending.

  7. Entertainment Forum Policies and Guidance
When discussing entertainment the general policy is to use spoiler tags when talking about events or things that are clear or potential spoilers. Simply enclose the part that is a spoiler with spoiler tags:

Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's dad.
This will make sure the spoiler is blacked out and can be viewed by hovering a mouse, or tapping with a finger, the spoiler to reveal it. The forum's general policy is that once a movie, or TV show, has aired, and it has been officially released, spoiler tags are no longer needed. Everyone should be aware that once a movie hits theaters, for example, that the thread will be discussing the movie — openly and without spoiler tags — and know this fact before venturing into the movie's thread. Up to the official release we request spoiler tags be used. It is also general practice to spoiler tag rumors, leaks, and anything that may give away plot points before the official release.

    It's why I wrote thiiiissss.

I think most of the audience wouldnt have felt that same impact you wouldve. You may know something bad happen but its different than seeing and feeling that sense of loss. I dont think it would give most people any sort of tension or suspense it more doesnt relieve the tension and suspense thats been building through the whole movie and would let it go.

I dont think your wrong at all if that wouldve worked for you better and given you more of a response, but Im glad we got what we got. You really think when you saw the film next May seeing who finally ended up dying would impact you when have no time to ruminate on it and the remaining chracters have to jump back into finishing the story?

If this ended with the snap I would have been annoyed. That would have been such a dumb ending.

Honestly think the ending was perfect

But I really didn't feel like 2.5 hours went by and was shocked when the credits rolled

Maybe I'm missing something, but how does that work? How can anyone spoil the movie if the movie isn't out? How would they see it? Especially with a film like this which was kept heavily under wraps. Wouldn't it just be easier to have a separate thread once the movie is released that's labeled with a spoiler warning where people can discuss it? That way the original thread isn't suddenly filled with spoilers for people mid-discussion.

  12. The plot's been out there for a while.

Also spoilers leak before its released all the time, especially if its released in one part of the world vs. another. Or in comics case people could use it to talk about plot lines from the comics that could be in play for the movie that other people dont want to know

It's comical to be told I'm lazy or uncaring for discussing spoilers in the thread dedicated to a movie that's already out.

I'm as spoiler averse as they come which is why I hadn't stepped foot in this thread for a long while until i saw this last night. It's been the forum policy for god knows how long, don't shame me for your inability to stay out of a thread.

If you want to gauge the general reaction that's what reviews and twitter (where I post my spoiler-free thoughts) are for.

i still cant wrap my head around the ending it blew my mind. so many deaths but i think everyone that died at the end will come back but loki and Heimdall are most def dead and not coming back also i dont think vision comes back. i am undecided about gamora. but with zoe having a commitment to doing all those avatar movies it wouldn't surprise me if she stayed dead. spider man comes back doctor strange i think comes back cuz theres rumors of a doctor strange 2 black panther will def be back idk if bucky comes back or not idk how many movies he has left on his contract. his contract was 7 i think. groot drax and mantis will all come back with guardians 3 planned already. and i think sam comes back. also the stan lee cameo was awesome and i was shocked to see the red skull back even tho hes played by a different actor

im seeing it again on tuesday so i will have more input after i see it again

also i like what they did with the marvel studios turning the io into 10 that was pretty cool

The more I think about this the more I have trouble fathoming how it was possible to make something like this and be so fucking effective. So many things that blossomed from seeds planted in almost every movie.

There were so many of those little character interactions that just killed me. I think the Starlord/Thor stuff might have been my favourite.

This was fun. Makes much more sense now why the next Avengers sequel is only a year away. Need to see it again before I can rank it in the MCU. It’s certainly better than Age of Ultron.

I think the first GOTG is the only Marvel movie I liked more than this, and it's a verry close call on that one. I could see arguments made for winter soldier, too.

That says a lot from me considering my Spider-Man obsession and how much I enjoyed Homecoming.

Stories and plot should work to bring out character, not overpower it. The conflicts in Civil War, Black Panther, and the Guardians movies deal with personal struggles where the conflict is dramatized in action. In this movie, the action is just dramatizing survival. In a movie where almost everyone is 100x more powerful than a regular person and I know there are stones that exist that can undo everything I’m seeing, that just isn’t a satisfying or interesting story. We spend all that time with Thor restarting Peter Dinklage’s workshop, but what does it mean that Thor is willing to die to get it started? Yeah it’s the only hope for survival, but that’s not a personal struggle that he’s overcoming. Vengeance for Thanos’ genocide? Okay, but that wasn’t grounded in anything. Loki is barely mentioned during that whole sequence. This wasn’t a movie. It was an episode. Entertaining wheel spinning that let all the important character work be done by better movies that came before. Was there one earned human moment within its runtime? One emotional setup, conflict, and dramatic payoff? I honestly don’t think there was. The closest I can get is Thanos sacrifice of Gamora, but even that was half baked.
