Honestly I'm always here for whatever ATL does. I'd love more songs in the vein of Birthday, and I also hope they continue to experiment with their sound, but I'm sure I'll be happy regardless.
I'll be pretty disappointed if they go back to the SWIR sound, but I doubt that's what the next album is gonna sound like
Holy christ this is catchy. Looks like they were serious about going back to their roots on the next album.
We’ll I guess that explains Alex’s new green hair do with the song called ‘Getaway Green’. Hard to make out but it does sound catchy and it has that trademark ‘All Time Low sound’.
Man, if Alex can write something like Nightmares, Good Times, or Old Scars/Future Hearts in his sleep, I'd love to see what he could come up with when he's had his coffee
I'm totally fine with them going back to this kind of sound if that's what they want to do. I'm going to judge their new music on its own merits, not based on the fact that it doesn't sound like their last album. This song sounds fun, I'm cool with that. Also, we don't know what this will sound like on a record by the way.
Steve I genuinely don’t understand your dislike of their last couple albums haha, I feel like Last Young Renegades would be right up your alley. Probably my favorite thing they’ve done at this point.
It's one thing to say a band is writing the same thing they've always done and putting no spin on it and call that "writing it in their sleep" since the idea is it's very easy for them to do. It's quite another for a band to very publicly spend a fuck load of time on crafting a new sound and songs that are extremely rich in sonic depth and then disparage the effort that went into them. Like them or not, I don't really care (you're missing out on their best work, but whatever), but to just be factually wrong in your continual critique is obnoxious.
Yeah, subjectivity aside I’m just not sure I understand that particular criticism, the songwriting on the last two albums is on a different level
Yeah, to me being able to write something "in your sleep" implies an artist is playing it safe. I definitely wouldn't describe Last Young Renegades that way... like it or not, they took some major risks on there.
That’s what my implication was. LYR was such an interesting and daring creative leap for them, that it disappoints me to hear the new song remind me of their “older stuff”. I have no doubt that ATL will write an album full of great songs, but I now have the expectation that they will go above and beyond.
LYR definitely re-interested me in the band and I agree with the above that it's my personal favourite of theirs too (disregarding PUOSU and SWIR for nostalgia reasons). I honestly don't think they could have wrote that album "in their sleep". They definitely tried new ideas on that one and came out with a more 'mature sound'. I think I expressed my concerns/disappointment last year when it was rumoured they'd 'returned to their roots' as I would have loved for them to explore the LYR sound more on the next one.
I mean, this obviously isn't the place for me to bring up my distastes for the last two albums again and again, I guess that's why there is the unpopular opinion thread, but here I am again. I don't find the music on them to be risky, interesting or unique. I just don't. "Different" from what they used to make musically, obviously, but in this case I don't think the different is better/unique/exciting/(insert other qualifiers).
