Discovering The Waterfront Dead Reflectiin This Is How The Wind Shifts A Shipwreck In The Sand When Broken Is Easily Fixed Arrivals & Departures Rescue I Am Alive In Everything I Touch Short Songs
Wind or Dead Reflection for me and I voted the latter. I didn't get into this band Wind though so I have no nostalgia for the old stuff.
I started listening at Shipwreck so my order is obviously somewhat influenced by that, but surprisingly I enjoy all of their full lengths This Is How The Wind Shifts Dead Reflection I Am Alive In Everything I Touch Discovering The Waterfront A Shipwreck In The Sand Rescue Arrivals & Departures When Broken Is Easily Fixed
This Is How The Wind Shifts is my favorite album of all time. Every song is 9+/10. The whole concept of small decisions having spanning consequences is so well executed, and the a-side/b-side parallel tracks concept is absolutely brilliant. The fact "This Is How" & "The Wind Shifts" being right/left pans of the same song is so fucking cool too. "Arrivals" is a beautifully heartfelt song, the the "Departures" reprise is so rewarding. Every song has so much emotion. From the very first track, 'Stand Amid The Roar' about struggling with the morality of a life of crime, it immediately is just packed with far more impactful subject matter than most post-hardcore bands. Every riff hits, the drums and guitar tones combined with the scream/clean dualing vocals from Shane just make the listener feel like they're at the top of a mountain taking over the world. The imagery is great. The bridge of SATR is beautiful and such a great example of the band's lyrical mastery. The bridge riff on On Brave Mountains We Conquer is so gnarly and really shows the breadth of Silverstein's metal influences, and the verses' show of Shane's versatility. Massachusetts is an equally hard hitting song, the verse riff is so urgent, and the lyrical subject matter about escaping an abusive relationship is something most bands wouldn't dare tackle, but Silverstein do it so tastefully and turn it into an empowering anthem. A Better Place shows Silverstein's more pop-punk/alternative side but the storytelling and songwriting is them on their A-Game-- heartbreaking as all hell. And that breakdown... OOF. Hide Your Secrets is a perfect power ballad, and once again, a showing of Silverstein's lyricism-- it connected to me when I was a lonely pre-teen and I still connect to it today. In A Place Of Solace is some insane experimental scream/ballad stuff, and shows how the band isn't afraid to take risks. California is just the band's songwriting at it's A-Game and the deserving sequel to California. To Live And To Lose is also a perfect sequel to A Better Place, as it just tears your heart in two from the perspective of the girl who died in 'A Better Place'. With Second Chances is just an awesome rock banger. I've said it before but Arrivals is just an amazing singer-singwriter venture about missing someone, and Departures is equally great, with the reverbed chord progression, the backwards chorus riff. And of course 'This Is How The Wind Shifts' is such a relatable track about the struggle of the human condition and the confusing mess of emotions we all are. This was the first "heavy" album I ever got into, after I started listening to rock in 6th Grade with bands like blink-182 & Zebrahead. I saw a drum cover of "On Brave Mountains We Conquer" on the channel of a video game youtuber I liked, and immediately fell in love. This was the album 12-year old me needed, and I'm beyond thankful for it today. "This Wind Changed Me" ------------------------------------------------------- Ranking: This Is How The Wind Shifts Shipwreck In The Sand Discovering The Waterfront Dead Reflection When Broken Is Easily Fixed = I Am Alive In Everything I Touch Rescue Arrivals & Departures
I've been listening since Shipwreck, as well, but my favourite is This Is How The Wind Shifts. I think this is their best as a cohesive album, and just overall best sound/vocals, which is why it has some of my favourite Silverstein tracks and ones I return to most. As it was mentioned above, the parallel tracks and concept just made it have the "it" factor even more.
I remember loving broken in high school. I don't know if I didn't like the sound of the second record or AP elitism got to me. Gonna have to give them a try. I'll see what ends up coming out on top here.
Wind Shifts. I think it encompasses the best of everything they did on previous records and also the concept was pretty cool.

Voted Shipwreck because of how massive that album was for me when it came out, and I still enjoy it a fair amount. Wind is hands-down their best, though, and I feel Arrivals is way underrated.
Silverstein have been one of my favorite bands since I first heard em but TIHTWS was the first that floored me when I first heard it and it gets my vote. DR settled into the 2 spot quickly though, I was so excited when it placed on the site’s EOTY list. TIHTWS DR DTW/SITS Rescue (their most underrated imo) Arrivals (also underrated) IAAIEIT (this one bored me) Short Songs Broken (good debut but just too raw/underdeveloped to place higher) definitely think this band gets overlooked in the best/most consistent discog discussion
Definitely think Rescue is way underrated. Understand the criticism of it not being cohesive at all though
The top 3 is firmly DTW, Wind Shifts, and Dead Reflection. I voted DTW but it could have easily gone to Wind Shifts. the rest of their discography is so solid. I can’t wait to see what they have for this new record
