Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation 9. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 10. The Martian What are your top three films for 2015? We will keep a running tally and eventually have some sort of bracket. For me it would be: 1. Arabian Knights 2. Knight of Cups 3. Cemetery of Splendour What are some of the forgotten gems from the year? What is overrated? What did you discover at a young age and what did you discover later? YEARS IN FILM • forum.chorus.fm
Blackhat, The Treasure, A Very Murray Christmas, and Right Now, Wrong Then were all close. The worst movie was The Danish Girl, in a walk.
1. The Lobster 2. Anomalisa 3. The Witch 4. Mad Max: Fury Road 5. Tangerine 6. World of Tomorrow 7. Hardcore Henry 8. Room 9. Inside Out 10. Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens Also love Bone Tomahawk, Spotlight, Krisha, Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, Birdboy: The Forgotten Children, Visaranai, Our Little Sister, 45 Years, Green Room, Masaan, Embrace of the Serpent, Mistress America, Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Big Short, Men and Chicken, The Second Mother, The Martian, Sicario, Carol, Love, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, The Visit and Brooklyn.
1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. Inside Out 3. Bridge of Spies Also love Tangerine, Jupiter Ascending, World of Tomorrow, Dope, Chi-Raq. I contributed to the kickstarter for Anomalisa in 2012 and was promised a copy of the movie, so when it came to theaters in 2015 I didn't go see it and as of now (2021) I still have not received my copy (and if you look at the comments for the kickstarter there's hundreds of people saying the same thing). Anyway, I've never seen Anomalisa, The Witch, Creed, Crimson Peak and a few other notables.
1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. Magic Mike XXL 3. Carol This was a really hard year to narrow down. Tangerine, A Bigger Splash, Anomalisa, the Lobster, the Witch, Bridge of Spies, and Green Room were all experiences I enjoyed a lot.
1. Room 2. The Big Short 3. Straight Outta Compton Not a big year for me. Enjoyed Spotlight too. Still haven't seen The Martian or The Revenant, which I'm kind of embarrassed about.
Sicario Mad Max: Fury Road Carol HM: 45 Years, Inside Out, The Witch, The Hateful Eight, Green Room, The Martian, Spotlight, Tangerine, Bone Tomahawk, Dope, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, Cemetary of Splendor
1. Embrace of the Serpent 2. Blackhat 3. Magic Mike XXL Leaving out Sicario and Green Room was hard. Realistically you could shuffle those 5 movies around in any order and on any given day I would probably be OK with it
I think number 2 to Mad Max: Fury Road is a strong endorsement! And not every conversation, at least not in awhile. But as a quasi-musical/story about authenticity in art/masculinity it's singular, plus some of Soderbergh's best work as a DP.
Not the strongest year, but I really love the top 3. Fury Road is one of my all-time favorite moviegoing experiences. 1. Mad Max: Fury Road 2. The Big Short 3. The Lobster Honorable mentions: Carol Green Room The Witch Inside Out Magic Mike XXL Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation Bone Tomahawk Sicario The Hateful Eight
Mad Max isn't on my list, but it is probably the best big-budget action film in this century. It isn't even doing anything particularly unique, instead just taking the audience for a ride while cutting out so much of the fat in these three hour superhero movies. It even earns a genuine emotional moment, when Furiousa and Max nod to each other at the end.
The choreography is remarkable. The action scenes have so much kinetic energy, and yet it's totally clear and easy to follow. So many action scenes are overstuffed with CGI and edited in a rapid-fire motion so you have no idea what's actually happening. Mad Max does neither.
1. Mad Max: Fury Road (also the best film of the decade imo) 2. Inside Out 3. Steve Jobs Honorable mentions: Ex Machina Furious 7 Tangerine Creed Sicario The Big Short Anomalisa Mistress America What We Do in the Shadows Phoenix It Follows Paddington
1. Green Room 2. Mad Max: Fury Road 3. 7 Days in Hell Also very much enjoyed: The Witch Blackhat The End of the Tour The Overnight The Invitation Slow Vest The Lobster Turbo Kid The Night Before Digging for Fire
