How’s the leaderboard look this week? I’m probably going to finish the second half of Double Nickels on the Dime tomorrow to finish off the year
I've absolutely sucked at this lately - sorry y'all. Got a new puppy and pairing that with work has not been conducive to much listening/forum time. My votes wouldn't have changed the outcome - 1. The Smiths - S/T 2. R.E.M. - Reckoning 3. Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA 4. Husker Du - Zen Arcade 5. Prince - Purple Rain

Finally getting around to the J. Geils Band album after Peter Wolf left, You're Gettin' Even While I'm Gettin' Odd. My parents have had it on vinyl for my whole life but I just never threw it on because my Dad said it was disappointing. Almost entirely unqualified disaster is more like it. Seth Justman may have been responsible for a huge percentage of the band's success (writing, arranging, producing), but boy he does NOT have that x factor at all. His vocals are wallpaper bland and he lets the songwriting lean way too far into antiseptic, hookless synth pop. That said, "The Bite from Inside" is a killer song and should be rescued from this for a compilation or two. "I Will Carry You Home" would have been excellent, too, if it had a charismatic vocalist, but he just can't put it over.
