The singer-songwriter's second album is finally out this summer, after scrapping her former second album.
Super curious to see what ends up on this album. As a refresher for those who haven't followed, her second album was supposed to be called Love and War, and was slated for a 2015 release. That release was preceded with a 4-song EP of the same name. She had a full tour under that name, but pushed the album back to a March 2016 release. That release day came and went with no release. Silence for a long time, then a few new singles this year, and now a new album title and release date. This was the track list for the album that never came, I hope we get to someday hear the tracks we haven't yet... Ride or Die The Fadeaway Love 3X The Roof OverdoZZe (feat. Pell) Miracle Rescue Lonely Marry Well This Means War
There's been some crazy behind the scenes stuff for sure, I'm just glad we're actually (maybe?) gonna get a second album now
aaand track list, very strange The Deep isn't on it Ghost Cannonball (feat. Fantastic Negrito) Help Me Mama The Storm Domino (feat. Fitz) Let It Burn Bag of Bones She Ain’t Me If U Stayed Hold On Ride (feat. Gary Clark Jr.)
I'm really curious what happened behind the scenes. All the songs from what will be the album are way less poppy, and way more rock/jazz/whatever than the Love and War EP was. I wonder if maybe ZZ wasn't happy with the pop direction, and when the single didn't land, maybe she changed directions back to the style of the first album? Just spitballing here, I obviously have no idea
Could also be strategic about finding a market. You can still break an artist on that Bonnaroo/Ray Lamontagne kinda angle.
How's this for crazy. If anyone remember this thread, 6 years ago (WTF), it's worth reading back through as a refresher. Anyway, her first album as a solo artist is out tomorrow and THREE of the songs from her scrapped 2015 are on it. Well at least three, unless some were renamed too. Wild stuff.
