My issue with him is more than he only seems to know three chords. If you are going to make an album that is like five hours of just you and the acoustic guitar, and especially cite Nebraska a lot when discussing it, you should probably work on playing guitar
I'll almost definitely never run this whole thing again, but I'm pleasantly surprised with how much I love the best 5 or 6 tracks here after being pretty burnt out him quickly after the last one. Agree branching out a bit in terms of the chord progressions would go a long way to expanding his sound.
i just mean his writing is very heavy on cowboy chords, would be interesting to hear him get a bit weirder with it
I don't know much at all about songwriting, but I thought the horns were a pleasant surprise. changed up his sound a little bit in my opinion. I've only gotten to around track 8 though, so I haven't heard this whole thing yet.
I get frustrated with him because he has hinted at getting "weirder" with it, and I don't see that reflected in the music. It's kinda like the issue I have with Taylor Swift. She is so focused on changing eras and styles and aesthetics between albums and then you get the same sing talky bullshit on the majority of tracks.
whatever happened to the dude talking about we were promised jetpacks and the front bottoms all the time as influences? i don't love those bands but the next song he releases that sounds influenced by those bands will be the first
There's plenty of artists that are just rewriting their greatest hits over and over again. I'm fine with it if there's something memorable in the new songs/a huge hook. I did not get that on many of the tracks on the first half of this. Only up to You Can Still Come Home, I will finish after this class.
I don’t think there’s a bad song on here but it definitely feels like “Yup, it’s a Zach Bryan album” to me, and I’m a bit bored of that sound at this point. The standouts (Appetite, South and Pine, Cannonball) are really great though.
I had a good time. Songs were good, pacing felt nice, I didn't think it felt like its length (compliment)
I listened to the full album and immediately wanted to listen to it again. Love it when a new album can do that for me. The serotonin and dopamine impact is nice.
