I finally decided to check out Deann and Elizabeth after already being a full fan just from his last three records. damn those acoustics hit so well.
This is incredible, I really enjoyed his last album but this one is transcendent. Also naively had me looking up tickets just to see he's apparently sold out AT&T stadium
I still haven’t given this a fair shake. Tried listening to it yesterday on our way to my son’s baseball tournament and my wife and son made me turn it off 6-7 songs in (and my son likes ZB) I also *hate* listening to an album for the first time around others, so that’s on me. Can’t wait to eventually dig in.
Really loved this piece about the album, from Meaghan Garvey at GQ: Zach Bryan Won't Be Your Jukebox Hero
I had it pegged from the second I saw the track listing. There’s all sorts of little Bon Iver-esque flicks on this. Some big National vibes at times, too.
I didn't listen to "Pink Skies" before the whole album came out - the first time I listened through the whole thing I genuinely teared up at the line about 'if you could see them now you'd be proud but you'd think they were yuppies' he got me good there
Same. Still think their name change was extremely inadvisable. Seems like they lost all their momentum.
Finally got my first listen in. Good stuff as always. Wish it was a little more uptempo at times. But as with all of his records, it takes some time to digest it all.
Agree with this. This album is pretty good, but a little surprised at how subdued most of it is given his last few releases started to bring in a lot more instrumentation. Would love to get just a full album of rippers from him, but I still do appreciate the softer stuff as well, but wish this album was a little more balanced. I probably would have slimmed down the track list too, but hard to argue with a dude who consistently puts out great music every few months. 28 and Oak Island are easily my two favorites.
I thought self-titled was pretty damn great and I still think this is a step up for him songwriting wise
After a couple days my favs are “Boons”, “Towers”, “Bathwater”, “Pink Skies”, “Bass Boat”, and the 28-American Nights-Oak Island run
I think id agree with this. Though looking at the tracklisting it seems like it’s pretty balanced. I think he takes some more chances on the back half. So I’d probably take that gun to my head.
I hope he keeps opening his albums with a poem. Matty Healy compared opening their albums with The 1975 to being like turning on a PlayStation or Xbox. Welcome back, here's where we're at now.
