Not going to lie, I chuckled at someone trying to defend Zach Bryan by telling John Moreland all his songs sound the same.
i was listening to TGABS today and theres at least 4 songs on it that from the first chords played i can't immediately tell which of the 4 they are lol, so yeah lol
Hard for me to see how Moreland isn’t clearly the party in the wrong here. Seems like some want to hate ZB no matter what the facts are
I'm still completely and utterly blown away by the amount of money they were willing to pay ZB for his catalog, and I say that as a pretty big fan of his Moreland referring to him as an off-brand version of himself strikes me as a weird thing for him to say - is there a certain song where he feels like ZB ripped him off that he is referring to or something like that...?
Moreland comes off bad here initially but also his latest story accuses ZB of being a huge dick the few times they’ve hung out, being mean to his wife, making “borderline racist” jokes and so on — which considering Zach’s reputation isn’t surprising. Don’t think it was a good move to start posting like a bitter jealous guy but I’m inclined to believe that Moreland has his legitimate reasons for disliking Zach as a person. Just kinda an ugly situation overall
Yeah, I’m gonna believe Moreland here, and I don’t see anything wrong with people being upfront about not liking someone. I wouldn’t play nice if Zach actually did / said those things either.
funny that either of them would accuse the other of being an off brand version of them when they’re both off brand versions of jason isbell
who are we kidding here? they're all just off brand versions of neil young, tom petty, and bob dylan.
I say this as an absolute massive Isbell fan since Decoration Day, he doesn't have anything that touches Cortez the Killer.
I don't really care for Neil Young much, but I also haven't been pulled into Isabel. So what I'm saying, is I have no worthwhile into into this discussion
Isbell is a top 10-15 songwriter of all time for me and I've generally been lukewarm on Neil. Neither of these things should be surprising takes if you've actually interacted with me on this website, lol.
Would be happy to. I had a "best of" playlist I made years ago, but it's probably missing the last 2-3 albums. What have you heard?
Neil has never done anything for me and that’s fine. Not denying his legacy or influence. Just not the kind of stuff I’ve ever really dug. Always enjoyed the Isbell. Oh, I do truly hate “Rockin’ In The Free World.” Not that that’s exemplary of his overall work.
