Ah yes. Our new great saviour of rock music has arisen! I was really worried we wouldnt get another legitimate rock god after MGK went country. I mean, who else is just going to steal riffs and melodies from the 90's and 2000's, and then pretend it was all their own??? Thank you Lord Youngblub. May your year in the spotlight be as fruitfull and cringe worthy as Mr Machine Guns was. Rip those riffs, baby.

  3. The clip I linked to was him, IMO, making a good point of how rock music gets flowers in hindsight, after the audience grows up, and mentioning Knocked Loose, Turnstile, and a bunch of other great bands as ones holding the torch right now.

Two things can be true here. He made a good point and his music is just down right terrible. I think generally he’s a good guy, but I despise his music. I cannot believe people refer to him as the savior of rock and roll. I’m doubly surprised he was so close with Ozzy, because his music couldn’t be more different from anything Ozzy ever did. He’s a Mickey Mouse Goth Pop artist who doesn’t write anything original, and I think his music in actuality is damaging to rock and roll. This is all just my personal opinion on his music. I don’t judge anybody who likes it but let’s not pretend this guy is even rock and roll adjacent.

This isn’t directed at anybody here it’s just me doing the old Abe Simpson yelling at clouds. I know nobody here was making a point about him saving rock and roll, but I’ve heard it elsewhere.

It’s also so ridiculous in this video how he talks about how ludicrous it is that one person would save rock and roll without even acknowledging that he and Ozzy basically made a show of anointing him as such. Could somebody seriously be so unaware or is it that they are just happy to pretend to be modest? Then go off and humble brag about how the Grammys were dumb enough to give him two noms in the rock music category when he CLEARLY doesn’t play anything remotely close to rock. Sorry, rant over.

  5. His new album is actually decent. Sure it wears its influences on the sleeves with that 90s/ arena rock / britpop revival thing but I was pleasantly surprised considering 90% of his previous output was deserving of the hate it gets.

It doesn’t do it for me. But I don’t blame anyone who finds joy in it. It’s such a strange dichotomy for me because I truly like the guy and everything he stands for. I just wish his music wasn’t decided by Ozzy to be the carrier of the torch for rock because there are so many more deserving bands out there that have been grinding for YEARS that deserve those flowers. Idols is the closest thing he’s written to being rock adjacent, but a lot of those pop sensibilities still shine through. I wish he would just embrace being a pop star. I feel like his career will be defined as a square peg trying to fit into a round hole because of the rock crown being placed upon his head by Ozzy. It will hurt him in the long run, unless he changes stylistically.
