    Sarah Perez, writing for TechCrunch:

YouTube is celebrating 10 years of its YouTube Music app on Thursday with the launch of new features that bring it closer to rival Spotify and others. The app will now include “Taste Match” playlists, which are playlists that combine multiple users’ overlapping interests, similar to Spotify Blend. The app will also start notifying users of upcoming releases, merch, and concerts, and is partnering with Bandsintown to help fans discover concerts when watching videos and Shorts on YouTube itself.

It's crazy how bad YT Music still is. It was a downgrade when they pushed us off Google Play Music five years ago, and still is today. I still pay for a family plan as I watch a decent amount of YouTube and I want to provide easy access for my family members, but I personally switched to TIDAL two years ago now.

Migrated from Google Music and haven't looked back since. Our family plan includes ad free YouTube, which comes in handy for everyone. Also, based on my kids listening habits, it really is the only streaming service that is viable. My son loves video game themes and soundtracks, and my daughter loves niche artists that only upload to YouTube (ones that make parody songs based on Roblox games).

As much as everyone likes to shit on the service, it works just as well as the other streaming services. It's recommendations align with my tastes, and the playlists are great. Not a fan they included podcasts, but it's mostly hidden in the app since I have yet to use it for podcasts. My only real worry/complaint is that it's provided by Google, so long term support is shaky at Best. I'm hoping it stays ongoing since it's tied to one of their most important services.
