Was suggested we create a new Top 20 thread in the Last Movie You Saw thread, so why not: 1. Donnie Darko (Richard Kelly, 2001) 2. Eyes Wide Shut (Stanley Kubrick, 1999) 3. Skinamarink (Kyle Edward Ball, 2022) 4. Seven (David Fincher, 1995) 5. Airplane! (Zuckerberg, Abrahams and Zuckerberg, 1980) 6. American Movie (Chris Smith, 1999) 7. NOPE (Jordan Peele, 2022) 8. Prisoners (Denis Villeneuve, 2013) 18. First Reformed (Paul Schrader, 2017) 19. Pearl (Ti West, 2022) 20. Be Kind Rewind (Michael Gondry, 2008) This list is constantly in flex for me (I usually list Eyes Wide Shut as my number one, but have been thinking about Donnie Darko a lot recently), and there's some stuff I know I'm missing (like Dawn of the Dead '78 being my favorite horror film for all intents and purposes), but as a whole, I think this list does a good job of reflecting both the films I grew up with and have a soft spot for vs the films I'm discovering and falling in love with now. 2022 was an absolutely insane year for horror. Also, I know A Charlie Brown Christmas Special is technically a television special, but it makes me more emotional than a lot of other films so I feel it belongs here.

Realistically it's probably Eyes Wide shut, but I've had Donnie Darko on my mind for about a week now and I never grow out of that one so they're neck and neck. Very different movies, not really compatible, both mean a lot to me though.

yeah it's maybe a strange pick but it's one of the most unique and interesting films I've ever seen and I appreciate it more every time I see it. I'm not sure there's any other film out there that can match the mix of absurd humour and emotional devastation I get from it.
