I’ve redone my list three times god damn this is hard Don’t even know how I could choose favourite songs
I started trying to do this earlier this year and it just kind of drove me insane, haha. I got it down to around 500 before abandoning the project. I don't know why I decided it was easier to write what amounts to a short novel about my top 200 albums... Maybe I'll go back to the songs list when I finish blurbs for the albums list. "Elephant" was my favorite song on there when I first heard the album, but "Cover Me Up" has been my top Isbell song (and my top song of the decade, period) since the first time I saw him sing it live. Not sure any song I've ever seen in a living setting has had more of a visceral impact. You really have to see it to believe it.
I think I can get there. I’ve got a lot of playlists and four months. Maybe it’ll be 300 songs vs 200, but I can make progress for sure. Will be a nice way to mark the decade. “Elephant” is the saddest, finest cut gem of a song. “Cover Me Up” is a way of life.
Amending my plan: I've got like 40 contenders for top 10 so far. Will ultimately choose 15 (top 10 plus 5 HMs) and do a write up for each one in January. Excited to do this.
Also I know these contradict each other but I decided to put more work into choosing albums so here we are.
It's great, but its not the best love song of the decade. I Love You, Honeybear by FJM is number one.
Still trying to come up with my top 10. For some reason, most of what comes to mind is from the last year or two, and very little is from early in the decade. Part of that is probably because my music taste has changed a lot since 2010, but I feel like I should go back and relisten to some things that I loved back then
