Spicy Jack Chicken Quesadilla and Big Fat Tacos are back at Del Taco! I should not be having that for a weekday lunch, but I'm 'bout to smash.
I have a more nuanced take on this. In essence sure some good restaurants and breweries came out of this, and of course a generation being more open minded and adventurous about food is a great thing; But also a whole lot of mediocre garbage came out of it too. Unfortunately a lot of that mediocre garbage came at the expense of simple affordable neighborhoods restaurants.
Yeah I may be but a dirty millennial, but the dunking on the millennial burger placeification of restaurants like borderline doesn't make sense to me. I've got nothing against making fun of the word artisinal or the lumineers or "handhelds," yeah those tropes are definitely silly, but the proverbial you loses me with the pizza tweet. Even the idea that it killed the affordable neighborhood restaurant - I dunno. I blame that a lot more on 2008 and COVID and the private equity induced enshittification of everything much more than I blame an aging hipster who uses decent ingredients in their pizza or burger and has IPAs on tap. I don't think all the places getting made fun of are good, but the ire is a fair bit misplaced in the aggregate I think.
Just my two cents: I think it's also important to keep in mind the type of restaurants those places were mostly replacing. While it's a shame that some good, affordable mom-and-pop spots got caught in the crossfire and priced out, a massive chunk of what got replaced was also not very good. A hipster spot in 2010 which finally treated brussels sprouts properly and had more gourmet takes on common meals was a welcome, needed change. Sure, the trend went too far, but there's a lot of popular food trends that don't make sense and go on for far too long: McDonald's offered caviar this year, and restaurants still put whole chives and sprigs of rosemary on plates. What the phuxk am I going to do with that???! Just thinking about those herbs makes me angry. There's a lot of phuxked up things happening out there. The millennial-influenced gastropub is an easy target simply because it became so common due to its success in a market that was predominantly controlled by uninspired establishments.
Elvis apparently had another sandwich that sounds even better/would end your life way quicker I'm almost tempted to try it. once... but not to share it here. you folks are sick
What peanut brand do ya'll like? I don't eat it, but I got my wife Skippy reduced fat by accident once, and she was mad and said that Skippy was terrible but then ended up eating it and it's her favorite and go to now. She also keeps it in the fridge.
I tried these the other day. Amazing! I also made a tuna salad sandwich and O crunched these up and put them in the sandwich on top of the Tuna and it was fantastic.
Maybe it stops it from separating? But peanut butter doesn't really separate unless you've let it sit for a few months haha
Would be good for like a dessert component prep or something, but putting frozen PB on a sandwich or toast or something? Nah.
I used to spread peanut butter on double stuf Oreos and let me tell you, I weighed 30 pounds more, but it was delicious.
only for eating pb with a spoon. it's a bad idea in most cases and I realize that. I rarely use bread anymore fwiw
PB from the jar is a great poor and/or too lazy to go to the store protein/source of natural fats. When I was younger I tried a weird calorie restrictive diet where every day for breakfast you eat a tablespoon of PB, a hard boiled egg, a grapefruit, and a single piece of whole wheat toast.
Are peanuts like the easiest thing to grow in the world? Sometimes it blows my mind that us American's haven't bled the world dry of it lmao
Ruby Red Grapefruit might be my favorite fruit. Fun fact: growing up I always thought that everyones lips and tongue got sorta tingly from eating grapefruit, then during Covid I found out that no that isn't normal and I probably have a minor allergy. I actually like that sensation too.
I only ever get natural peanut butter. Interestingly, I’ve found that I really enjoy the pb made by Target’s Good & Gather brand
They don't require fertilizer, they are self pollinating, and they are pest free. So yeah they're probably one of the easiest to grow.
