There are not people who don't like Italian food, just whitebread Madigans who never had an Italian grandmother's homemade Sunday gravy and sausage & peppers before. They just don't know that they like Italian food yet.

 

Fuck I want Sunday gravy with Ziti or an some Eggplant Parm now

 

If all you've ever had was the shitty tomato ketchup and noodles that a local Italian spot in my hometown used to make, I can understand coming away from that thinking you don't like Italian food. But yeah, the good stuff is undeniable and Italian cuisine is so much more than pasta and pizza.

I recently heard a take from a Turkish guy that " Greek food is just watered down Turkish food. Everything they have, we also have but better. Greece was in the Ottoman Empire for hundreds of years, it's the same culinary culture, but the West only talks about great Greek food is and ignores Turkish cuisine because one is Christian and one is not"

 

The best restaurant in Long Beach is a Levantine spot, I think that includes Turkey, I had one of the best meals of my life there.
