You go to Frenchy's on the beach you get a fried grouper sandwich, and some garlic crab fries as an app while drinking a CCB Jai Alai, Bolts game is on the bar TV, while you stare off into the St. Joseph Sound.. you're living that peak Tampa Bay life.
A genuine question as a Floridian to non-floridians who also live near the coast, do you guys don't have Fish Camps (hole in the wall seafood spot usually attached to a wholesale fish market or marina that serves bomb ass fried fish) do you? It just occurred to me that those might be a Florida only thing.
From Socal and that sounds like Ports O Call Village and Fish Market in San Pedro. A bunch of different little stands where you could pick out your fish and they'd cook it for you. I don't fried fish was really the thing they'd specialize in big platters with a whole ass french loaf and mexican style fish/shrimp cocktail. Like this:
Sounds similar. In Florida fish camps the seafood is more southern influenced. Fried stuff, hush puppies, cornbread, mac & cheese, ect
New England coast is littered with fried seafood shacks, with the main attraction being whole belly clams. Some will have a small counter of fresh fish to take home and cook but not always. And right near them is an ice cream stand. An absolute must visit as many times as possible during summer
It’s hard to get a good fish sandwhich around here. I find it’s never crispy enough, and the bread is never toasted enough
Customers mourn discontinued Coca-Cola flavor never to be seen again Next they'll be coming for Moxie
I've honestly never had a Moxie, I just know that it's a New England staple you'll find at any sketchy, old convenience store that nobody here actually drinks because it's gross and I don't know why or how it exists
Im gonna be honest with you, if you blacked out the label on this I would think this was delicious chocolate treat.
I prefer carbonara with bacon over guanciale. I know the latter is the “right” way to eat it but I grew up eating it with bacon and after making it dozens of times I just like the taste of bacon better.
Only time I had moxie was at a friend's house as a kid but never seen it outside of the grocery store since. I dont exactly remember the taste but I know I didnt really care for it
Conner O'Malley was on a podcast recently and he was telling a story about once he was in a diner in a Chicago and a guy ordered a long ass order and then asked " hey can I also get a slice of cheese to eat while I wait?". That is so dope. Im gonna start asking for that and see what they say lol
