Yeah I hit a KFC drive thru the other day and was blown away by how expensive they’ve got. I bailed and went to the Taco Bell across the street
British food is really not bad at all and if you think it is you've either A) never had it B) a picky eater C) easily influenced by others and can't make up your own mind or D) you actually think it is, but you're wrong, or generalizing from a single bad experience. If you go on vacation to England, you will find plenty of quality food. Yeah - there's weird stuff but even the stuff that gets shit on is fine. A cheese and pickle sandwich? Don't mind if I do. Beans and Toast - Great, lets do it (but English Heinz beans only). A chip shop curry? Amazing. A proper Sunday roast is one of the best meals in the world. Also, the UK has some of the best Indian food in the world. Oh... and a full English breakfast? move over french toast / pancakes etc for the best breakfast in the world (when done right). Overall - 100% an internet myth that the food is bad and it's just trendy to be like 'omgggg it's different... gross'. The only thing I don't like is their cut of bacon. I always come back missing the crispy American cut especially as a burger topping. I like my bacon to almost shatter though.
Fish and chips are good and Indian food isn’t British food. You can get good roast anywhere. The rest is trash.
I think it's fair to say that America is a good food country because it's co-opted a lot of food from other nations and has a lot of variety, so why isn't it fair to defend British food by saying it has good ethnic options (specifically Indian) as well? I won't stir the whole chinese food debate, but the Indian food in England is better than most I've ever come across in the US. Either way - I stand by my point and think the idea of British food being bad, is outdated and just wrong. Go to a big city there, do a little research, eat out for a week at semi decent and above places, and then say 'the food is bad'. Most people would be lying if they did. You really think that if you go to a decent restaurant there with professional chefs they'll serve bland-ass unseasoned food that has not evolved from post WWII seasoning or cooking standards? Spoiler alert - they do not.
I don’t think I’ve ever had a proper English meal but it all looks good other than the beans and mushy peas I’m not a cowboy I don’t want beans for breakfast
when people say British food is bad it's usually home cooking and it's a picture of a plate of food that's all grey/brown, but yeah of course if you research and go to fancy restaurants it's going to be good. it's also just a funny meme.
It's the name isn't it? I mean 'mushy' should not be used to describe anything in a positive manner. Mashed peas would have been better but then that still doesn't sound good... I like them but for this one I get the 'wtf England' reaction to it. The beans there are totally different. Way different sauce and more tomatoey then like BBQy. However, I'll defend this as breakfasts around the world vary WILDLY so to me, it's not that weird. I've seen weirder Asians breakfasts (that I'd still totally try).
I am pretty sure that British baked beans are different than Americans baked beans. I have heard they're not really the same taste.
