back in the day before they released the album I saw that one studio vid showing them work through verse of TtDA and it sounded so ace. then I was surprised later when I didn’t really feel it on the album version.
I'm revisiting Violent Waves for the first time in a while in preparation for the next bracket. It's much better than I remember. It might be their most melancholy sounding record.
Both VW and Descensus have grown on me over the years more than most records do. I guess they're still the bottom 2 to me... barely... but BSN has fallen for me some over the years, so all 3 are pretty close.
BSN used to be my favorite, but it was overtaken by Descensus and then that was overtaken by The Amulet. I think I put Juturna a hair above BSN now too. Not sure where VW falls yet. Gonna update my ranking after this bracket is over.
Violent Waves is criminally underrated and probably my third favorite album of theirs. Phantasmagoria to Bird Sounds is a hell of a run.
Current Totals: Get Out - 13 I Felt Free - 7 Frozen Creek - 10 Through The Desert Alone - 10 Strange Terrain - 12 Spirit Of The Stairwell - 8 Dyed In The Wool - 16 Imaginary Enemy - 4
What's really hitting me is the back half of the album. Think Of Me When They Sound through I'll Find A Way is hitting me really hard. Everything just sounds so somber from the band to Anthony's wistful delivery.
GeeeEEEETTTT OUUtttttt Through the Desert Alone Strange Terrain Imaginary Enemy I do love Frozen Creek so that was a tough one. It's sad that I Felt Free had to go against Get Out cus it really is a great song and up there with my very favorite Circa songs. Imaginary Enemy is underrated, but I would've thought about it harder if there was a chance of winning, cus Dyed In the Wool is really an amazing closer
Get Out Frozen Creek Strange Terrain Imaginary Enemy ive always liked this album but it’s been a long time since I listened in full and it’s more consistent than I remembered. Kinda wish I’d picked up the repress. Each rounds been tougher than anticipated.
